FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

5 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,782.7

The FTSE 100 at 10,783 is consolidating within an intact upward structure rather than starting a decisive reversal, despite finishing the last session 0.4 percent lower. That distinction matters because it is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, while the recent decline has not yet damaged the broader sequence. The clear view is cautiously constructive: underlying resilience remains visible, but progress now depends on clearing nearby resistance rather than merely holding elevated ground.

The external tone is a restraint rather than a direct break on the index: German factory orders rose 4.4% after a 10.1% drop, EA construction PMI printed 42.5, and DXY climbed 0.1% to 101.61, which means the manufacturing rebound is offset by persistent construction weakness and modest dollar strength within a risk-off regime. For the FTSE 100, that backdrop can create uneven sector leadership because its internationally exposed constituents may receive some currency insulation, while economically sensitive areas remain vulnerable to weaker risk appetite. The index is roughly 0.5 percent up over the last two weeks, showing that recent demand has survived the softer session without producing runaway upside.

The one month average at 10,729 is the first structural reference because price remains above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend with price above both its one-month and longer averages. The nearer 10,750 round number handle reinforces that area as immediate support, since continued closes above it would show that participants still defend modest weakness. Overhead, the month swing high at 10,948 sits about 1.5 percent above the current price and matters because it marks the nearest proven ceiling. The 11,000 handle is the next psychological resistance, also consistent with the upper boundary of the three month range at 10,990. Below, the shelf at 10,367, about 3.9 percent lower, is pivotal because it is also the bottom of the three month range of 10,367 to 10,990.

If the index holds 10,750 and then makes a decisive move above 10,948, the path toward 11,000 opens because the market would have removed the month’s main supply point and challenged the three-month ceiling. Acceptance beyond that area would strengthen the case that the uptrend is extending rather than simply rotating inside its recent range. Conversely, if 10,750 fails and 10,729 cannot be recovered, pressure would likely build toward 10,367 because the market would have lost both its nearby round-number support and its recent average. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,117, which means a range breakdown would replace orderly consolidation with a materially weaker structure.

The principal risk to the constructive read is that the 0.4 percent lower session becomes the start of sustained distribution rather than a pause. Repeated failure beneath 10,948, followed by acceptance below 10,729, would weaken conviction because it would show that elevated prices are no longer being defended. A loss of 10,367 would invalidate the clean uptrend interpretation and shift control firmly toward the bear path to 10,117. Net, the FTSE 100 remains resilient above 10,750, but only a decisive break of 10,948 would convert that resilience into renewed upside authority.
