GBP/USD – Daily Read

1.3493
GBP/USD is testing whether a recovery can become a broader advance. Last price is 1.3493, with the last session 0.2 percent higher, and it is pressing the top of its one-month range because demand has absorbed repeated pressure near the ceiling. The clear view is constructive but conditional: the pair has earned respect on the upside, yet it has not confirmed a clean escape from congestion. That distinction matters in forex, where a marginal range break can reverse quickly unless follow-through changes positioning and draws fresh demand above prior resistance.
The recovery case rests on improving price structure rather than a completed trend change. The one month average is 1.3344, and price is above it, while the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum is roughly 0.7 percent up over the last two weeks, which matters because progress has been steady enough to challenge the range top without becoming obviously extended. The shared macro backdrop matters only where shifting expectations for the relative UK and US outlook alter sterling demand against the dollar, while the immediate catalyst is whether this range pressure converts into acceptance above resistance.
The month swing high at 1.3503 is only about 0.07 percent above the current price, so it is the first decision point because the market can test it without requiring a large extension. A decisive move above 1.3503 opens the path toward 1.3675, with 1.3600 serving as the nearer round number handle where profit-taking and fresh resistance could slow the move. The three month range of 1.3139 to 1.3675 gives that upper boundary added meaning because it marks the broader ceiling, not merely a short-term reference. Below spot, 1.3400 is the first round number handle that should contain ordinary pullbacks if pressure remains constructive. The one month average at 1.3344 then becomes a more consequential defense, because sustained trade beneath it would weaken the recovery interpretation. The shelf of support at 1.3139, about 2.6 percent below, is the structural line separating consolidation from renewed downside control.
The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD clears 1.3503 decisively and holds above it, then the former ceiling should begin acting as support, allowing pressure through 1.3600 and toward 1.3675 because acceptance beyond the month swing high would confirm that the range has expanded upward. The bear path begins if the test of 1.3503 fails and price retreats through 1.3400. If 1.3344 then stops holding, the recovery attempt loses credibility and focus shifts toward 1.3139. Losing 1.3139 exposes 1.2939 because that break would remove the principal shelf defending the entire three month structure.
The main risk is a false break above 1.3503 followed by a rapid return below 1.3400, because that would show rejection rather than genuine acceptance. The constructive read is invalidated more fully by sustained weakness beneath 1.3344 and ultimately by loss of 1.3139, while strength through 1.3600 would reinforce the case for a test of 1.3675. Net, GBP/USD retains an upside bias at 1.3493, but confirmation requires the market to turn nearby resistance into durable support.
Key levels: support 1.3139 (2.6% below), resistance 1.3503 (0.07% above), one-month average 1.3344, three-month range 1.3139 to 1.3675.
