USD/JPY – Daily Read

5 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.77

USD/JPY at 157.77 is consolidating rather than reversing, even after finishing the last session 0.4 percent lower, because the pair remains mid-range over the past month and the longer trend still points up. The immediate read is a controlled pullback with fading short-term conviction, not a clean bearish turn. That distinction matters because renewed strength could quickly challenge the upper boundary, while further weakness would shift attention toward the support structure below.

The macro backdrop is mildly supportive for the dollar side but broadly risk-off: German factory orders rose 4.4% after a 10.1% drop, EA construction PMI printed 42.5, and DXY climbed 0.1% to 101.61, which means a manufacturing rebound is offset by persistent construction weakness and modest dollar strength. For USD/JPY specifically, the pair’s roughly 0.7 percent rise over the last two weeks shows underlying upward pressure has not disappeared, even though the latest session has interrupted that advance.

The one month average at 157.96 is the first meaningful reference because price has slipped beneath it, which means the immediate structure reads as a pullback until that area is recovered and held. Above there, the month swing high at 158.95 sits about 0.7 percent above the current price and represents the point where consolidation would give way to renewed trend strength. The 160.00 handle should then act as psychological resistance because it is the nearest round number above that high. On the downside, the shelf at 156.07, about 1.1 percent below, is the key defense because holding it preserves the broader upward structure. The 155.00 handle adds another psychological buffer, while the full three month range of 152.88 to 163.74 defines the larger battlefield.

The bull path is straightforward: if USD/JPY reclaims 157.96 and sustains acceptance above it, then the pullback loses credibility and 158.95 becomes the next test. If a decisive move above 158.95 follows, then the path toward 163.74 opens because the pair would have cleared the month swing high and reasserted the longer upward trend. The bear path begins if attempts to recover 157.96 repeatedly fail and pressure extends through 156.07. If that support is lost decisively, then 155.00 becomes vulnerable and 152.88 is exposed because the shelf defending the broader structure would no longer be intact.

The main risk to the bullish interpretation is that the roughly 0.7 percent advance over the last two weeks has already lost enough force to turn the current pullback into a deeper correction. A sustained break below 156.07 would invalidate the constructive near-term read, while recovery through 157.96 and a decisive move above 158.95 would invalidate the bearish path. Net, USD/JPY at 157.77 remains upward-biased but tactically fragile because price is below its one month average, leaving confirmation dependent on which boundary breaks first.
