USD/JPY – Daily Read

6 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.87

USD/JPY is consolidating near the top of its recent territory rather than reversing, with the last price at 157.87 after finishing the last session 0.1 percent higher. That matters because it is holding in the upper half of its one-month range while the longer trend still points up, which means the burden remains on the bears to prove that this pullback can develop into something more damaging.

The macro connection is the pair’s sensitivity to shifting US and Japanese rate expectations, because any widening in their perceived policy gap would reinforce dollar strength while a narrowing would give the yen room to recover. For now, USD/JPY is roughly 0.7 percent up over the last two weeks, which means underlying demand has survived even as the immediate structure has softened beneath a key reference point.

The one month average at 157.94 is the first test because the price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Reclaiming 157.94 would show that the loss of near-term traction was temporary, which means pressure could rebuild toward the month swing high at 158.95, about 0.7 percent above the current price.

The month swing high at 158.95 is the decisive resistance because it marks the point where the latest advance previously ran out of force. A decisive move above 158.95 opens the path toward 160.88, while the nearer round number handle at 160.00 could still attract hesitation because traders often reassess exposure around prominent psychological levels. The top of the three month range at 160.88 matters more structurally, since clearing it would confirm that the pair is expanding beyond established territory rather than merely retesting an old extreme.

On the downside, the shelf of support at 156.07, about 1.1 percent below, is the level defending the constructive interpretation because it separates an orderly pullback from a deeper loss of control. The nearer round number handle at 155.00 would become relevant after that shelf fails, which means price acceptance beneath it would make the lower end of the three month range increasingly difficult to ignore. Losing 156.07 exposes 152.88, the base of the three month range from 152.88 to 160.88.

The bull path is clear: if USD/JPY regains 157.94 and then closes decisively above 158.95, then the pullback has likely completed and the route through 160.00 toward 160.88 becomes credible because resistance has been converted into support. The bear path is equally defined: if repeated failures below 158.95 are followed by a loss of 156.07, then 155.00 becomes vulnerable and 152.88 comes into view because the market would have broken the shelf protecting the longer upswing.

The main risk to the constructive read is a rapid shift in relative rate expectations, but price itself provides the clean invalidation because sustained trade below 156.07 would contradict the idea that weakness is merely corrective. Net, 157.87 keeps USD/JPY in a firm but unfinished consolidation, with 158.95 holding the key to renewed upside and 156.07 defining whether the broader advance remains intact.
