FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

2 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,729.8

The FTSE 100 is consolidating rather than failing, with the last price at 10,730 and the session little changed on the session (under 0.05%). The index is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, which means underlying demand remains intact despite the absence of immediate upside momentum. The clear view is cautiously constructive: the market is attempting to recover, but it has not yet cleared the resistance needed to turn resilience into a renewed advance.

The one month average at 10,687 is the first piece of evidence, because price is above it and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum roughly 0.3 percent down over the last two weeks shows that the recovery has yet to attract sustained follow-through. The macro backdrop matters mainly through the FTSE 100’s internationally exposed and defensive composition, which means shifts in global growth expectations and risk appetite can affect it differently from a domestically focused UK index. For now, stability above 10,687 suggests those cross-currents are being absorbed rather than driving broad liquidation.

The nearest resistance is the round number handle at 10,750, because it sits just above the current market and tests whether participants will press strength rather than fade it. Beyond that, the month swing high at 10,892, about 1.5 percent above the current price, is the more important ceiling because it marks the point where the recent recovery previously ran out of force. The upper boundary of the three month range 10,367 to 10,990 then becomes relevant. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990, which means the index would be challenging the top of that broader range rather than merely rebounding inside it. On the downside, 10,500 is the nearer round number handle and should act as an initial support reference because holding it would preserve a sequence of relatively elevated prices. The shelf of support at 10,367, about 3.4 percent below, is the key structural defence and also the floor of the three month range.

If the index holds above 10,687, clears 10,750 and then sustains a decisive move above 10,892, the bull path points toward 10,990 because resistance would have given way in stages and the recovery attempt would have become a broader range challenge. If instead 10,750 repeatedly rejects progress and price falls through 10,500, attention shifts directly to 10,367, which means the recovery is losing its footing. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,250 because the established shelf would no longer be containing downside pressure.

The main risk to the constructive read is continued weak participation beneath 10,892, because sideways trade can gradually turn recovery into distribution even without a dramatic session decline. A sustained reversal below 10,687 would weaken the near-term case, while a loss of 10,367 would invalidate it and place 10,250 in view. Conversely, acceptance above 10,892 would invalidate the cautious part of the stance. Net, 10,730 keeps the FTSE 100 resilient and slightly constructive, but conviction requires resistance to break before the recovery can be treated as durable.
