GBP/USD – Daily Read

1.3401
GBP/USD is testing whether a recovery can become a broader advance. Last price is 1.3401 after the last session finished 0.1 percent higher, and it is pressing the top of its one-month range. That matters because strength near a range ceiling forces the market to prove that demand can persist once easy recovery ground has been reclaimed. The near-term view is constructive, but conviction requires clearance of nearby resistance rather than another rejection from familiar territory.
The macro backdrop matters through shifting UK and US rate expectations, because relative policy pricing directly affects the return offered by sterling against the dollar. The instrument-specific evidence is firmer: momentum is roughly 0.7 percent up over the last two weeks, while the one month average sits at 1.3310. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That combination shows improving short-term control, but it also means the move has not yet repaired the broader structure.
The immediate contest is around the nearer round number handle at 1.3400, which matters because holding above it would turn a psychological ceiling into a first line of support. The month swing high at 1.3433 is about 0.2 percent above the current price, making it the clearest confirmation point for continuation. Above there, the nearer round number handle at 1.3600 becomes important because traders will test whether momentum can survive as the upper boundary approaches. The full three month range is 1.3139 to 1.3675, so the upper edge represents both major resistance and the point where the recovery would begin to look structurally broader. A shelf of support at 1.3139, about 2.0 percent below, defends the entire rebound because it marks the lower range boundary and the origin of the latest recovery.
The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD holds 1.3400 and secures a decisive move above 1.3433, then resistance has been absorbed and the path opens toward 1.3675. Progress through 1.3600 would strengthen that case because it would show demand remaining effective despite a prominent round-number test. The bear path begins if 1.3433 continues to reject advances and price slips back beneath 1.3400, which means the range ceiling is still controlling trade. If weakness then extends through 1.3310, the recovery loses its near-term anchor; losing 1.3139 exposes 1.2939 because the established three-month floor would no longer contain downside pressure.
The main risk to the constructive view is a failed breakout, especially if a move through 1.3433 cannot hold and GBP/USD quickly returns below 1.3400. That would signal exhaustion rather than expansion because price would have rejected both the range top and its nearest psychological support. Sustained trade below 1.3310 would weaken the recovery interpretation, while a break of 1.3139 would invalidate it outright and shift control decisively toward 1.2939. Net, the bias remains cautiously bullish above 1.3310, but 1.3433 must give way before the advance deserves stronger conviction.
Key levels: support 1.3139 (2.0% below), resistance 1.3433 (0.2% above), one-month average 1.3310, three-month range 1.3139 to 1.3675.
