USD/JPY – Daily Read

4 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.99

USD/JPY remains structurally firm despite ending the last session 0.5 percent lower at 157.99. It is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, which means the decline looks more like hesitation near resistance than a decisive reversal. The clear view is cautiously bullish while nearby support holds. That matters because sustained yen weakness can keep the broader advance intact, but the pair is now close enough to a meaningful ceiling that confirmation matters more than conviction alone.

The macro backdrop is relevant only because shifting expectations around the US-Japan policy gap can quickly change the relative appeal of the dollar and yen. USD/JPY is trading above its one month average of 157.94, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages. Even so, the two-week impulse is roughly 0.08 percent down, which means upward structure and short-term pressure are temporarily pulling in opposite directions. That tension explains why the market is consolidating rather than extending cleanly.

The month swing high at 158.95 sits about 0.6 percent above the current price and is the first serious resistance because it marks the point where the latest advance previously ran out of force. A decisive move above 158.95 opens the path toward 163.90, the upper boundary of the three month range of 152.88 to 163.90. Before that broader extreme, the round number handle at 160.00 may attract defensive positioning because psychologically important levels often slow an otherwise orderly move. On the downside, the shelf of support at 156.07, about 1.2 percent below, matters because it separates a contained pullback from structural deterioration. The nearer 155.00 handle is a secondary reference beneath that shelf, while 152.88 defines the major range floor.

The bull path is straightforward: if USD/JPY absorbs supply around 158.95 and holds above it decisively, then the market has evidence that the recent pause has resolved higher, which means 160.00 becomes the next test before attention shifts toward 163.90. The bear path begins if repeated failures below 158.95 push price through 157.94 and then 156.07. If 156.07 is lost with persistence, then 155.00 becomes vulnerable and 152.88 is exposed because the support shelf that preserved the uptrend would no longer be functioning.

The main risk to the constructive read is a sudden repricing of the policy gap or direct concern over excessive yen weakness, because either could turn an orderly retreat into a sharper reversal. A sustained loss of 156.07 would invalidate the near-term bullish bias, while failure to stabilize around 155.00 would strengthen the case for a move toward 152.88. Conversely, strength through 158.95 must hold rather than briefly spike, because rejection back below it would preserve the range. Net, 157.99 keeps USD/JPY constructive, but 158.95 must give way before the next leg higher is credible.
