FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

31 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,729.8

The FTSE 100 is attempting to rebuild upward momentum rather than beginning a clean breakout. At 10,730, after finishing the last session 0.1 percent higher, it is holding in the upper half of its one-month range. That matters because the index is absorbing recent weakness without surrendering its broader range position, but it has not yet cleared the resistance needed to confirm that control has shifted decisively toward the bulls. The view is constructive while support holds, with conviction reserved for a break above the month’s high.

The immediate context is a contest between resilience in the index’s globally exposed heavyweights and hesitation across more economically sensitive shares. Shifts in global rate and currency expectations matter here because they influence overseas earnings translation and the relative appeal of the FTSE 100’s dividend-heavy composition. The one month average is 10,676 and price is above it, so the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. The index is roughly 1.4 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the latest strength is repairing damage rather than extending an established advance.

The nearest test is 10,750, which matters because it sits just above the last price and can distinguish routine range noise from sustained upward pressure. Holding above that handle would make the month swing high at 10,892 the central resistance point. That high is about 1.5 percent above the current price, and it is likely to be defended because traders who endured the recent pullback may reduce exposure as the prior extreme returns. Below, 10,500 is the nearer round number support and the first meaningful test of whether the recovery retains credibility. The more important shelf is 10,367, about 3.4 percent below, because it anchors both the recent base and the bottom of the three month range of 10,367 to 10,990.

The bull path is straightforward: if 10,750 is cleared and then holds as support, pressure can build toward 10,892 because the market would be accepting value above the immediate range cap. If a decisive move above 10,892 follows, that opens the path toward 10,990, where the top of the three month range should attract a stronger defensive response. The bear path begins if 10,750 continues to reject advances and price slips back through 10,676. If 10,500 then fails to steady the market, attention shifts to 10,367 because the recovery attempt would have lost both its reclaimed average and its nearer psychological support. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,250 and would mark a material deterioration in the range structure.

The main risk to the constructive view is repeated failure near 10,750 followed by acceptance below 10,676, because that would show the rebound lacks sponsorship. A sustained break beneath 10,500 would deepen that concern, while losing 10,367 would invalidate the recovery reading and turn the three month floor into resistance. Conversely, the bearish case is invalidated by firm acceptance above 10,892, because that would convert a capped rebound into a credible challenge of 10,990. Net, the FTSE 100 has a modest upward bias at 10,730, but the decisive evidence still lies above 10,892, while 10,367 remains the line that protects the entire constructive case.
