FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

25 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,690.4

The FTSE 100 is attempting to rebuild upward momentum rather than beginning a clean retreat. At 10,690, after finishing the last session 0.3 percent lower, the index is absorbing modest pressure while holding in the upper half of its one-month range. That matters because the broader structure remains constructive enough to challenge overhead supply, but not yet strong enough to confirm that the recovery has become a durable advance. The clear view is cautiously positive while nearby support holds, with confirmation still required above the recent peak.

The macro backdrop matters through sterling, global rate expectations and demand for internationally exposed UK companies, because those forces can quickly alter the relative appeal of the FTSE 100. The more immediate catalyst is the index’s ability to remain above its one month average of 10,636, which means recent weakness has not yet undone the recovery attempt. Price is back above the one-month average but still under the longer one, so the market has improved without fully escaping its broader overhead constraint. The index is also roughly 1.3 percent up over the last two weeks, which means underlying demand has survived the latest softer session.

The first test is 10,750, because that round number handle sits close enough to current price to reveal whether demand can regain control quickly. Sustained trade above it would refocus attention on the month swing high at 10,892, about 1.9 percent above the current price. That level matters because it marks the point where the latest advance previously met meaningful supply, and clearing it decisively would signal that the recovery is broadening. Above there, 10,990 is the upper boundary of the three month range of 10,367 to 10,990. On the downside, 10,500 is the nearer round number handle, which means it should provide the first meaningful test of confidence. The deeper shelf at 10,367, about 3.0 percent below, is more important because it defines both the range floor and the boundary between consolidation and renewed deterioration. If that shelf fails, 10,250 becomes exposed.

The bull path requires the FTSE 100 to defend 10,500, reclaim 10,750 and then produce a decisive move above 10,892, because that sequence would show that nearby supply has been absorbed rather than merely tested. If that happens, the path toward 10,990 opens, with the range ceiling becoming the next major decision point. The bear path begins if repeated failures around 10,750 push price back beneath 10,500, which means the recovery is losing participation. If weakness then reaches and breaks 10,367, the range floor has failed and 10,250 becomes the next area where demand must respond.

The main risk to the constructive read is that price remains above 10,636 only briefly and then loses 10,500, because that would turn the apparent recovery into another failed rebound beneath the longer average. A decisive loss of 10,367 would invalidate the positive bias more fully, while acceptance above 10,892 would invalidate the cautious part of the view and strengthen the case for 10,990. Net, the FTSE 100 remains in a credible recovery attempt at 10,690, but conviction belongs only above resistance, while the range floor remains the line that must hold.
