EUR/GBP – Daily Read

0.8335
EUR/GBP is pressing the bottom of its recent range, with the last price at 0.8335 after finishing the last session 0.3 percent lower, because sterling continues to hold the relative advantage while the cross lacks evidence of durable euro demand. It is down near the floor of its one-month range, which means the immediate question is whether pressure is becoming exhausted or preparing to extend. The clear view remains bearish while the floor is being tested from above, but the limited distance to support makes confirmation more important than conviction alone.
The relevant macro channel is the market’s relative assessment of euro-area and UK policy prospects, because that comparison matters more for EUR/GBP than the broad direction of the dollar or global risk appetite. The instrument-specific evidence is that momentum is roughly 1.1 percent down over the last two weeks, while the one month average is 0.8418 and price is below it. The structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages, which means rebounds currently look corrective unless they reclaim ground that has repeatedly capped progress.
The first defence is the shelf of support at 0.8321, about 0.2 percent below, because it is both the lower boundary of the three month range 0.8321 to 0.8612 and the nearest established area where euro demand has previously absorbed pressure. Holding there would keep the cross contained and allow a recovery attempt toward the nearer round number handle at 0.8400, which matters because regaining it would ease immediate downside pressure and bring the one month average back into play. Above that, the month swing high at 0.8547, about 2.5 percent above the current price, is the decisive resistance. The lower round number handle at 0.8200 matters because it becomes the next obvious reference if the existing range floor fails.
The bull path is straightforward: if 0.8321 continues to hold and price recovers through 0.8400, then the market can begin repairing the recent decline because trapped bearish positioning would have less room to press. A sustained recovery through 0.8418 would strengthen that case, but a decisive move above 0.8547 opens the path toward 0.8612, which means the downtrend would have been replaced by a credible range reversal. The bear path is cleaner: if rebounds fail beneath 0.8400 and pressure returns, then losing 0.8321 exposes 0.8200 because the three month floor would no longer be containing the move.
The main risk to the bearish read is a sharp shift in relative policy expectations or an instrument-specific sterling reversal, because either could turn a crowded move near support into a fast recovery. The read is invalidated by acceptance above 0.8547 rather than by a routine bounce from the floor, which means patience matters while price remains compressed near 0.8321. Net, EUR/GBP remains vulnerable below 0.8418, with downside continuation favored if support breaks and meaningful trend repair requiring a decisive reclaim of resistance.
Key levels: support 0.8321 (0.2% below), resistance 0.8547 (2.5% above), one-month average 0.8418, three-month range 0.8321 to 0.8612.
