S&P 500 (SPX) – Daily Read

24 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
7,623.7

The S&P 500 at 7,624 is testing whether a routine pullback can remain contained within a rising longer trend. The last session finished 0.5 percent lower, leaving the index down near the floor of its one-month range. That matters because weakness has reached an area where demand must reappear quickly if the broader advance is to retain credibility. The clear view is cautiously constructive above nearby support, but confidence should remain limited until price repairs the short-term damage.

The one-month average is 7,727, and price is below it, so the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Momentum is roughly 2.4 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the market is correcting through persistent pressure rather than a single isolated session. The macro backdrop matters only insofar as uncertainty encourages investors to reduce broad index exposure and demand stronger confirmation before extending risk. For the SPX specifically, the tension is between profit protection after a sustained advance and confidence that the longer upward structure can absorb this retreat.

The first defense is the shelf of support at 7,612, about 0.2 percent below, because its proximity makes it the immediate test of whether current weakness is controlled or beginning to accelerate. The nearer round number handles at 7,750 and 7,500 frame the next decisions. Regaining 7,750 would show that pressure is being absorbed and would place the one-month average at 7,727 back beneath price, while 7,500 would become the psychological defense if 7,612 fails. The three-month range is 7,314 to 7,845, which means the market remains inside a broad advancing zone despite sitting near short-term support. The month swing high is 7,845, about 2.9 percent above the current price, and it is the decisive resistance because clearing it would confirm that the pullback has ended rather than merely paused.

The bull path is straightforward: if 7,612 holds, then stabilization can develop, followed by recovery through 7,727 and 7,750. If that recovery attracts sustained participation, then a decisive move above 7,845 opens the path toward 8,000 because the market would have removed the upper boundary of both the month and three-month ranges. The bear path begins if 7,612 gives way decisively. If that happens, then 7,500 becomes the next meaningful defense; failure there would reinforce the recent downside pressure, and losing 7,612 exposes 7,314 because the lower end of the three-month range would be the next established reference point.

The main risk to the constructive view is not ordinary movement around 7,624, but an inability to defend 7,612 and reclaim 7,727. A sustained break beneath 7,500 would invalidate the idea that this is merely a contained pullback because it would show that support is migrating lower. Conversely, the bearish reading would be invalidated by recovery through 7,750 and confirmation above 7,845. Net, the SPX remains longer-term constructive but tactically fragile, with 7,612 determining whether the pullback stays orderly or expands toward 7,314.
