Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read

2 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
63,297.7

The Nikkei 225 is in a corrective phase, with the last price at 63,298 after finishing the last session 2.1 percent lower. The index is down near the floor of its one-month range because recent pressure has pushed it beneath reference levels that previously anchored sentiment. The clear view is cautious while price remains below nearby resistance, but the market is approaching support where the next response should determine whether this is an orderly reset or the start of a deeper decline.

The broader backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations around global growth, policy, currencies, and risk appetite can amplify moves in a Japanese index with substantial exporter exposure. The one month average is 65,945, and price is below it, while the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages, which means rebounds currently face overhead supply rather than open space. Momentum is roughly 3.1 percent down over the last two weeks, confirming that weakness has persisted beyond a single difficult session. The month swing high at 70,799 is about 11.9 percent above the current price, which means repairing the full decline requires more than a routine bounce.

The nearer round number handles at 64,000 and 63,000 define the immediate contest because they separate stabilization from renewed pressure. Recovering 64,000 and holding above it would suggest that demand is absorbing supply, while repeated rejection there would keep control with the downside. Holding 63,000 matters because failure to defend that handle would leave little room before a shelf of support at 61,463, about 2.9 percent below. That shelf is the more important defense, since it sits close to the lower boundary of the three month range from 60,449 to 70,799. A decisive move above 70,799 opens the path toward 71,799, while losing 61,463 exposes 60,449, which means the outer boundaries carry clear directional consequences.

The bull path is straightforward: if 63,000 holds, then a recovery through 64,000 can begin rebuilding confidence, because acceptance above that handle would weaken the immediate bearish case. If that recovery extends through 65,945, then the structure would start repairing and attention could return to 70,799. A decisive move above 70,799 opens the path toward 71,799 because the month ceiling would have been cleared. The bear path is equally clear: if 63,000 fails and rebounds cannot reclaim it, then pressure should migrate toward 61,463. If 61,463 gives way decisively, then 60,449 becomes exposed because the support shelf would no longer contain the decline.

The main risk to the cautious view is a rapid recovery above 65,945, followed by sustained progress toward 70,799, because that would show the decline is being absorbed faster than the current structure implies. Conversely, a failure at 64,000 followed by a break of 61,463 would invalidate any stabilization case and place the three month floor at 60,449 under direct pressure. Net, the Nikkei 225 remains defensively positioned below 65,945, but the response between 63,000 and 61,463 will decide whether the correction is nearing exhaustion or broadening into another leg lower.
