FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

The FTSE 100 is attempting to rebuild a constructive trend, but the evidence is not yet strong enough to call a clean breakout. Last price is 10,730 after the last session finished 0.1 percent higher, and it is holding in the upper half of its one-month range. That matters because resilience near the upper part of the range shows underlying demand, while the modest session gain says conviction remains measured. The clear view is cautiously constructive above nearby support, with confirmation still required before the recovery can become a broader advance.
The immediate context is a contest between improving price structure and fading short-term force. The one month average is 10,676; price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum is roughly 1.4 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the index has regained an important reference point without fully repairing recent weakness. The macro backdrop matters mainly through global rates, sterling and the FTSE’s heavyweight sector mix because those channels can quickly alter the relative appeal of UK large caps.
The nearer round number handles at 10,750 and 10,500 define the first tactical battle. Holding above 10,500 would preserve the recent repair because that handle gives the market room to consolidate without damaging the recovery attempt, while sustained acceptance above 10,750 would show that supply close to the current price is being absorbed. The month swing high is 10,892, about 1.5 percent above the current price, and it is the key resistance because clearing it would convert recovery into expansion. The three month range is 10,367 to 10,990, which means the upper boundary remains the larger test. A shelf of support at 10,367, about 3.4 percent below, is critical because it marks both the three-month floor and the point where resilience would give way to renewed deterioration.
The bull path is straightforward: if 10,730 holds, 10,750 is accepted, and the index maintains ground above 10,676, then pressure can build against 10,892. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990 because the month high would no longer be containing the advance and the top of the broader range would become the next meaningful resistance. The bear path begins if 10,750 continues to reject progress and price slips through 10,500. That would weaken the recovery case and refocus attention on 10,367, while losing 10,367 exposes 10,250 because the established range floor would have failed.
The principal risk is a false recovery in which price remains above 10,676 briefly but cannot overcome 10,750 or reverse the roughly 1.4 percent decline over the last two weeks. The constructive read is invalidated by a sustained loss of 10,367 because that would break the support shelf, negate the upper-half resilience, and shift control decisively toward 10,250. Net, the FTSE 100 retains a cautious upward bias at 10,730, but 10,892 must break before conviction replaces recovery language.
Key levels: support 10,367 (3.4% below), resistance 10,892 (1.5% above), one-month average 10,676, three-month range 10,367 to 10,990.
