FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

30 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,722.1

The FTSE 100 is attempting to recover, but the move is not yet strong enough to declare a clean upside continuation. At 10,722, the index was little changed on the session (under 0.05%), which means neither side established control at the latest close. It is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, a constructive position because recent weakness has not forced price back toward the lower boundary. The clear view is cautiously bullish while nearby support holds, but conviction requires resistance to yield.

The one month average at 10,675 is the immediate structural reference because price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That combination says short-term conditions are improving without confirming a broader trend change. Momentum is roughly 1.5 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the recovery is working against residual pressure rather than extending an established advance. The macro backdrop matters mainly through global risk appetite and sterling sensitivity because the FTSE 100 combines defensive sectors, overseas revenues and cyclical exposure, leaving it capable of holding steady even when the domestic outlook is mixed.

The first nearby test is the round number handle at 10,750, because acceptance above it would show that the recovery can absorb supply immediately overhead. Beyond that, the month swing high at 10,892 sits about 1.6 percent above the current price and matters because it marks the point where the latest range has previously rejected strength. The three month range runs from 10,367 to 10,990, which means the upper boundary remains the larger hurdle even if the month high gives way. On the downside, 10,500 is the nearer round number handle and should act as an early confidence check because losing it would place price back below the short-term recovery zone. The shelf of support at 10,367, about 3.3 percent below, is more decisive because it is also the floor of the three month range.

The bull path is straightforward: if 10,750 is cleared and then defended, the market can press into 10,892 because overhead supply would be getting absorbed rather than merely tested. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990, which means the recovery would have evolved into a challenge of the full range ceiling. The bear path begins if 10,500 fails and attempts to reclaim it are rejected, because that would undermine the hold above 10,675 and restore downside pressure. If that weakness then reaches and breaks 10,367, losing 10,367 exposes 10,250, which means the range floor has failed and the present recovery thesis no longer applies.

The main risk is a series of closes trapped between 10,500 and 10,750, because that would leave direction unresolved while the roughly 1.5 percent two-week decline continues to weigh on sentiment. The constructive read is invalidated by sustained weakness below 10,367, while a hold above 10,675 keeps recovery potential alive and a decisive clearance of 10,892 strengthens it. Net, 10,722 supports cautious upside conviction, but the FTSE 100 still needs to prove that resilience can become expansion toward 10,990.
