FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

10,881.9
The FTSE 100 is attempting to turn recovery into a breakout, with the last price at 10,882 after finishing the last session 0.4 percent higher. It is pressing the top of its one-month range, which means the market is testing whether recent strength can attract sustained participation rather than merely complete a rebound. The clear view is constructive but conditional because price is close enough to resistance that confirmation matters more than enthusiasm.
The immediate catalyst is the index’s improving price structure. The one month average is 10,630, and price is above it, so the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum is roughly 4.0 percent up over the last two weeks, which means the advance has enough force to challenge the range ceiling but may also be vulnerable to profit taking if that ceiling holds. For this internationally exposed index, the macro backdrop matters mainly through shifts in global risk appetite, sterling and rate expectations because those channels influence its mix of overseas earners, financials and defensive companies.
The month swing high at 10,892 sits about 0.1 percent above the current price, making it the immediate resistance and the cleanest test of whether the recovery can extend. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990, which is also the upper boundary of the three month range of 10,252 to 10,990. The nearby 11,000 round number handle should then matter because it is an obvious point for hesitation and position adjustment just beyond the established range. On the downside, 10,750 is the nearer round number handle and should act as the first support zone because holding it would preserve pressure near the highs. The more important shelf of support is 10,367, about 4.7 percent below, because it separates an orderly pullback from a material failure of the recovery. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,252 and would return attention to the bottom of the broader range.
The bull path is straightforward: if the FTSE 100 clears 10,892 decisively and holds above it, then resistance has been absorbed and 10,990 becomes the next meaningful test, with 11,000 immediately beyond it. That sequence would strengthen the recovery interpretation because former range resistance would have a chance to become support. The bear path begins if 10,892 rejects the advance and price then loses 10,750, which means the breakout pressure has faded. If weakness subsequently carries through 10,367, then 10,252 is exposed and the move would look less like consolidation and more like a failed recovery.
The main risk to the constructive view is false strength near the range top because the gap between 10,882 and 10,892 is small enough for an intraday move to lack lasting significance. Sustained trade below 10,630 would weaken the recovery structure, while a loss of 10,367 would invalidate it and shift control toward the lower end of the three month range. Net, the FTSE 100 has a bullish lean above 10,750, but only a decisive break of 10,892 would confirm that the range ceiling is giving way.
Key levels: support 10,367 (4.7% below), resistance 10,892 (0.1% above), one-month average 10,630, three-month range 10,252 to 10,990.
