EUR/USD – Daily Read

17 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
1.1241

EUR/USD is attempting to stabilize at 1.1241 after finishing the last session 0.2 percent higher, but the balance of evidence still favors caution because the pair remains in the lower half of its one-month range. The rebound matters, yet it has not repaired the broader structure. The clear view is that euro strength remains tactical rather than durable until price can reclaim the overhead levels that have defined the recent decline.

The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations for the relative direction of European and US policy can widen or narrow the rate advantage behind the dollar, which means EUR/USD remains especially sensitive to changes in that comparison. Instrument-specific price behavior is still soft: momentum is roughly 0.1 percent down over the last two weeks, while the one month average stands at 1.1286 and price is below it. The structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages, because recent recoveries have not yet been strong enough to reverse the sequence of weaker positioning within the range.

The first nearby test is 1.1200, which matters because it is the closest round number handle beneath the market and should reveal whether the latest improvement has genuine staying power. Holding it would keep stabilization intact, while repeated closes beneath it would shift attention to the shelf of support at 1.1117, about 1.1 percent below. That shelf is also the floor of the three month range of 1.1117 to 1.1715, which means its defense separates an orderly range from renewed downside expansion. Above the market, 1.1400 is the nearer round number resistance and an important confidence test because recovering it would place price back toward the upper part of the recent monthly structure. The month swing high at 1.1501 sits about 2.3 percent above the current price and is the decisive resistance because it marks the point beyond which the present downtrend would begin to lose credibility.

The bull path is straightforward: if 1.1200 continues to hold, then pressure can build toward 1.1286, and acceptance above that average would strengthen the case for a move through 1.1400. If that recovery then produces a decisive move above 1.1501, the path opens toward 1.1715 because the pair would have cleared the month swing high and created room across the upper portion of its three month range. The bear path starts if 1.1200 fails to attract a durable defense. If price then loses 1.1117, it exposes 1.1000 because the established range floor would have broken and the market would be seeking a lower area of support.

The main risk to the cautious view is a rapid recovery above 1.1400 followed by sustained strength through 1.1501, which would invalidate the assumption that rallies remain contained and redirect attention toward 1.1715. Conversely, a loss of 1.1117 would invalidate the stabilization case and make 1.1000 the relevant downside reference. Net, 1.1241 leaves EUR/USD close enough to support for a recovery attempt, but below 1.1286 and still in a downtrend, so conviction should remain bearish unless the pair proves otherwise above resistance.
