US Dollar Index (DXY) – Daily Read

17 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$101.78

The US Dollar Index is consolidating within a broader advance, with the last price at 101.78 after finishing the last session 0.2 percent lower. That setback looks corrective rather than decisive because DXY remains in the upper half of its one-month range and above the one month average at 101.71. The structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages, so the immediate question is whether consolidation develops into renewed strength or a deeper retreat.

The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations around relative growth, policy, and demand for defensive liquidity can alter dollar demand, because DXY reflects the dollar’s standing against major developed-market currencies. The roughly 0.2 percent decline over the last two weeks shows that upward pressure has paused without materially damaging the broader structure. This is therefore a test of persistence: holding above the one month average at 101.71 would keep recent weakness contained, while continued hesitation would give competing currencies room to recover.

The nearest resistance is the round number handle at 102.00, which matters because it sits just above the last price and can separate routine consolidation from another challenge of the month swing high at 102.94, about 1.1 percent above the current price. That high also marks the upper boundary of the three month range at 98.56 to 102.94, making it the key ceiling for the broader move. On the downside, the round number handle at 100.00 is the first important psychological support. Beneath it, the shelf of support at 99.54, about 2.2 percent below, is more consequential because it protects the uptrend from turning into a full-range retracement.

The bull path is straightforward: if DXY holds above the one month average at 101.71, reclaims 102.00 with conviction, and then sustains a decisive move above 102.94, the path opens toward 104.00 because the three month ceiling would have given way and the market would be accepting a higher valuation zone. The bear path begins if repeated failures around 102.00 push price back below 101.71. If 100.00 then fails to provide support, pressure should migrate toward 99.54; losing 99.54 exposes 98.56 because the established support shelf would no longer be containing the retreat.

The main risk to the constructive read is that the recent 0.2 percent decline over the last two weeks becomes the start of sustained distribution rather than a pause. A move below 100.00 would weaken near-term control, while a loss of 99.54 would invalidate the clean uptrend and shift attention toward 98.56. Conversely, failure to hold above 102.94 after a breakout would warn that resistance remains effective. Net, 101.78 keeps DXY constructively positioned because it is above 101.71, but confirmation requires 102.00 to yield and 102.94 to break decisively.
