Copper – Daily Read

31 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$6.51

Copper is under controlled pressure, with the last price at $6.51 after a last session change of 1.1 percent lower. It is trading in the lower half of its one-month range, which means the burden of proof remains with the bullish side. This matters because copper is not merely pausing near recent strength: it is failing to hold the central area of its recent distribution while short-term direction continues to soften. The clear view is cautious below nearby resistance, with downside contained for now but not yet exhausted.

The one month average is $6.59; price is below it, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. The net move is roughly 0.3 percent down over the last two weeks, which means weakness is persistent rather than disorderly. For copper, the relevant macro channel is confidence in industrial demand and the willingness to hold cyclical exposure, because softer growth expectations tend to weigh on the metal more directly than on defensive commodities. That leaves demand conviction, inventory sensitivity, and broader risk appetite as the practical catalysts for a change in tone.

The nearest test is the round number handle at $6.60, because reclaiming it would also place price back above the one month average and begin repairing the damaged structure. Above there, the month swing high is $6.93, about 6.4 percent above the current price. That level is resistance because it marks the upper boundary of both recent ambition and the three month range of $6.10 to $6.93. On the downside, the round number handle at $6.40 sits just above a shelf of support at $6.38, about 2.0 percent below. That shelf matters because it is the last defined buffer before the broader range floor becomes the market’s focus.

The bull path is straightforward: if copper regains $6.60 and holds above it, then pressure on defensive positioning should build because price would have recovered an important reference area. If that recovery develops into a decisive move above $6.93, it opens the path toward $7.13, which means the market would have escaped its recent ceiling and forced a material reassessment of trend. The bear path is equally clear: if attempts to recover the nearer handle fail and price returns through $6.40, then losing $6.38 exposes $6.10 because the shelf would no longer be absorbing pressure and the bottom of the broader range would become the next meaningful support.

The main risk to the cautious view is a rapid recovery through resistance, because sustained trade above $6.60 would weaken the argument that the current decline remains dominant. Full invalidation requires strength through $6.93, while the bearish extension would itself lose force if a break of $6.38 were quickly reversed. Net, copper remains vulnerable while below its key averages, but the nearby support shelf makes confirmation essential: weakness below $6.38 would deepen the downtrend, while recovery through $6.60 would begin shifting control back toward the bulls.
