Gold (XAU/USD) – Daily Read

29 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$4,039.90

Gold is under clear near-term pressure at $4,040, with the last session 2.8 percent lower and price down near the floor of its one-month range. That matters because weakness is no longer confined to a routine pullback: the structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages. The burden of proof therefore sits with the recovery case, while the immediate risk remains a test of whether nearby demand can absorb another wave of liquidation.

The one month average at $4,224 is the clearest summary of lost control because price is below it and recent rebounds have not restored the prior structure. Momentum is roughly 3.0 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the decline has persistence rather than being solely a one-session shock. The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifts in the dollar and real-rate expectations can amplify gold’s move, while the instrument-specific pressure is the failure to regain its average and the resulting retreat toward range support. The month swing high at $4,489, about 11.1 percent above the current price, now represents substantial overhead supply and shows how much repair is required before the broader tone can turn constructive.

The first defensive shelf is $4,037, about 0.08 percent below, because it sits almost directly beneath the last price and is therefore the immediate test of whether demand still exists at the range floor. The nearer round number handles at $4,100 and $4,000 also matter because $4,100 is the first area that would show stabilization on a rebound, while $4,000 is the psychological line separating an orderly defense from a deeper range probe. The three month range of $3,993 to $4,760 provides the wider map, which means $3,993 is not merely another nearby print but the lower boundary that must hold to prevent the current decline from becoming a broader breakdown.

If $4,037 holds and price recovers $4,100, then the first pressure release would be visible because gold would have defended the shelf and reclaimed the nearest overhead handle. A sustained recovery through $4,224 would then challenge the downtrend and shift attention toward $4,489. A decisive move above $4,489 opens the path toward $4,760, which means the bull path requires sequential evidence rather than one sharp bounce. Conversely, if $4,037 fails decisively, then losing $4,037 exposes $3,993 because the market would have removed its closest structural defense. Failure at $3,993 would imply that the entire three month floor is giving way, increasing the risk of accelerated downside.

The principal risk to the bearish view is a forceful recovery that holds above $4,224 and then clears $4,489, because that sequence would invalidate the pattern of lower control and reopen $4,760. The risk to the recovery case is simpler: repeated rejection below $4,100 followed by a loss of $4,037 would confirm that support is not absorbing supply. Net, gold remains defensively positioned at $4,040, with the read bearish while below $4,224, but the immediate decision rests at $4,037 and the larger one at $3,993.
