GBP/USD – Daily Read

29 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
1.3317

GBP/USD at 1.3317 is attempting to rebuild higher ground, even after finishing the last session 0.1 percent lower, because it remains in the upper half of its one-month range and above the one-month average. The clear view is cautiously constructive rather than outright bullish: sterling has regained enough ground to challenge nearby resistance, but the recovery is incomplete while price remains below the longer average. That matters because the pair is close enough to resistance for confirmation to carry weight, yet still vulnerable to renewed dollar strength if the recovery loses traction.

The macro backdrop matters through shifts in relative UK and US rate expectations and broad dollar demand, because those forces determine whether sterling’s recovery can extend or merely stalls inside the range. The instrument-specific evidence is firmer than the latest session suggests: the one month average is 1.3291, price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum is roughly 0.3 percent up over the last two weeks, which means underlying pressure has leaned higher even though conviction is not yet strong enough to declare a durable trend.

The immediate support and resistance map is tight. The nearer round number handle at 1.3400 matters because it is the first area where the recovery is likely to meet heavier supply and hesitation. Above it, the month swing high at 1.3418 sits about 0.8 percent above the current price, and that level is the decisive ceiling because it marks the strongest recent rejection point. On the downside, 1.3200 is the first round number handle that should steady routine weakness because holding it would preserve the recovery’s higher positioning. The deeper shelf of support at 1.3139, about 1.3 percent below, carries greater structural importance because it is also the floor of the three month range from 1.3139 to 1.3675.

The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD clears 1.3400 and then delivers a decisive move above 1.3418, the recent ceiling becomes evidence of acceptance at higher prices, which means the path opens toward 1.3675. Progress would still need to hold above the former ceiling because a quick reversal would expose a false break. The bear path begins if 1.3200 fails to contain pressure. If weakness then extends through 1.3139, the range floor has broken, which means the recovery attempt has failed and 1.3000 becomes exposed as the next meaningful downside reference.

The principal risk to the constructive view is that price cannot sustain itself above 1.3291, because repeated failure around the one-month average would show that the apparent recovery lacks durable demand. A retreat below 1.3200 would weaken the read, while losing 1.3139 would invalidate it and shift control firmly toward the downside. Conversely, resistance at 1.3418 remains the burden of proof for sterling strength. Net, 1.3317 supports a cautious upward bias, but only a decisive break of the month high would convert recovery into continuation.
