S&P 500 (SPX) – Daily Read

1 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
7,580.1

The S&P 500 is undergoing a meaningful pullback within a longer-term advance, with the last price at 7,580 after finishing the last session 1.8 percent lower. The immediate view is cautious because the index is down near the floor of its one-month range, while roughly 1.0 percent down over the last two weeks shows that pressure has persisted beyond a single weak session. This matters because a controlled reset can preserve the broader advance, but failure at nearby support would turn an orderly retreat into a deeper correction.

The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations are prompting investors to reduce broad equity exposure, which means index-level positioning is amplifying the move. For the SPX specifically, the clearest catalyst is its loss of the one month average at 7,730, because trading below that reference confirms that near-term control has shifted toward the bears. The structure still reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up, which means weakness has not yet overturned the larger direction.

The first defensive area is the shelf of support at 7,528, about 0.7 percent below the current price, because it sits close enough to attract a response before the retreat materially expands. The nearer round number handle at 7,500 adds psychological reinforcement, which means the zone between 7,528 and 7,500 should reveal whether longer-horizon demand remains willing to defend the advance. Losing that area would expose the lower boundary of the three month range at 7,314, while the full three month range of 7,314 to 7,845 shows how much room volatility has to widen. On the upside, 7,750 is the first round number handle that matters because reclaiming it would place price back above 7,730 and repair the damaged near-term structure. The month swing high at 7,845, about 3.5 percent above the current price, is the decisive resistance because it caps both the recent range and the broader consolidation.

The bull path is straightforward: if 7,528 holds, then stabilization above 7,500 can support a recovery through 7,730 and 7,750, which means the pullback is being absorbed rather than extended. If that recovery then produces a decisive move above 7,845, it opens the path toward 8,000 because the range ceiling would have given way and the longer upward trend would again have confirmation from price.

The bear path begins if 7,528 fails decisively, because that would show the support shelf and the nearby 7,500 handle cannot contain the pressure. Losing 7,528 exposes 7,314, which means the market would be traversing the lower half of its recent range rather than merely testing its upper structure. Any rebound that stalls beneath 7,730 or 7,750 would reinforce that bearish path because former reference levels would be acting as resistance.

The key risk to the cautious view is a rapid recovery through 7,845, because that would invalidate the idea that the current retreat has further work to do and would refocus attention on 8,000. Conversely, sustained trade below 7,314 would invalidate the longer-trend pullback interpretation, which means the decline should then be treated as a broader structural break. Net, 7,528 is the hinge: defend it and the SPX retains a credible recovery path, lose it and the balance shifts firmly toward a deeper correction.
