Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read

25 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
62,907.8

The Nikkei 225 is in a sharp correction, not yet a confirmed reversal, with the last price at 62,908 after finishing the last session 2.7 percent lower. The immediate bias is defensive because the index is down near the floor of its one-month range, but the larger advance has not been fully broken. That distinction matters: pressure remains dominant over the short run, while proximity to major support creates scope for stabilization if supply begins to fade.

The move reflects rapid de-risking within the index rather than an orderly consolidation, because the Nikkei has fallen roughly 10.2 percent over the last two weeks. Broader macro uncertainty can amplify that adjustment, but the more useful signal is specific to this market: price has slipped below the one month average of 66,889, which means the current structure reads as a pullback even while the longer trend still points up. Recovering that average would suggest the correction is healing; remaining below it keeps rallies vulnerable.

The first contest is around the round number handles at 63,000 and 62,000 because they define whether price can settle after the latest decline. Holding around 62,000 would show that participants still regard this area as acceptable after the shock, while a sustained recovery through 63,000 would begin to reduce immediate downside pressure. Failure to defend 62,000 would shift attention directly toward the shelf of support at 61,463, about 2.3 percent below the current price.

The 61,463 shelf matters because it stands between a strained pullback and a deeper deterioration toward the bottom of the three month range. That range extends from 60,449 to 71,399, which means price is already operating much closer to its lower boundary than its upper boundary. A clean loss of 61,463 exposes 60,449 and would weaken the case that this is merely a temporary retreat within the longer rise.

On the upside, the month swing high at 70,799 is about 12.5 percent above the current price, so it remains a demanding hurdle rather than an immediate objective. It matters because reclaiming 66,889 would first restore balance, but a decisive move above 70,799 would confirm that the correction has been absorbed and open the path toward 71,399. Until then, strength should be judged by its ability to hold recovered ground, not simply by the size of a single rebound.

The bull path is straightforward: if 62,000 and 61,463 remain defended, then stabilization above 63,000 can develop into a recovery toward 66,889; if that level is reclaimed and retained, then 70,799 becomes the key resistance, with a decisive break opening 71,399. The bear path is equally clear because continued rejection below 63,000, followed by a loss of 62,000, would place 61,463 under renewed pressure; if that shelf fails decisively, then 60,449 is exposed.

The main risk to the defensive view is a fast recovery above 66,889 because that would show the recent liquidation has lost control sooner than expected. Conversely, sustained trade below 61,463 would invalidate the constructive interpretation of the longer uptrend and put 60,449 at risk. The net take at 62,908 is cautious but not structurally bearish: support can still produce stabilization, yet conviction only improves when reclaimed levels hold.
