FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

28 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
10,686.5

The FTSE 100 is attempting to recover rather than beginning a clean advance, because the last price of 10,686 sits above the one month average of 10,647 while remaining below the longer one. It is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, but the last session was little changed on the session (under 0.05%), which means conviction has not yet matched the improved position. The clear view is cautiously constructive above nearby support, with confirmation still required before the market can escape its broader consolidation.

The macro backdrop matters mainly through the FTSE 100’s exposure to global revenues, sterling sensitivity, energy, banks and defensive sectors, because shifts in policy expectations and risk appetite can affect those groups differently from the domestic UK economy. Price performance is roughly 0.4 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the recovery attempt is working against modest recent pressure rather than extending established strength. That tension explains the subdued session: the index has repaired some damage, but participants still need evidence that the move above its one month average can hold.

The first nearby test is 10,750, because that round number handle stands between the current price and the month swing high of 10,892, about 1.9 percent above the current price. Sustained trade above 10,750 would show that offers near the recent ceiling are being absorbed, while repeated rejection would keep the recovery contained. On the downside, 10,500 is the nearer round number handle that should attract defensive interest because holding it preserves the sequence back above the one month average. The more important shelf of support is 10,367, about 3.0 percent below, which also marks the bottom of the three month range 10,367 to 10,990. That overlap gives 10,367 added meaning: it is not merely a recent low, but the boundary separating consolidation from renewed deterioration.

The bull path is straightforward: if 10,686 holds, 10,750 is cleared and price can remain above it, then the recovery should retest 10,892 because resistance would be shifting from a ceiling into a platform. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990, which means the index would be challenging the top of its three month range rather than simply rebounding inside it. The bear path begins if 10,750 continues to repel advances and 10,500 gives way; then pressure should rotate toward 10,367 because the market would have lost both its nearby handle and the repaired short-term structure. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,250, which would confirm that the range floor no longer defends the index.

The main risk to the constructive view is false strength above 10,647, because a return below 10,500 followed by failure to recover it would show that the move above the one month average lacked durability. The read is fully invalidated by a sustained loss of 10,367, which means the balance changes from recovery within a range to downside extension toward 10,250. Conversely, acceptance above 10,892 would invalidate the cautious element and strengthen the case for 10,990. Net, the FTSE 100 remains mildly constructive at 10,686, but 10,750 must yield before the recovery deserves greater conviction.
