FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read
23 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk
10,670.8
The FTSE 100 is attempting to rebuild rather than beginning a clean advance, with the last price at 10,671 after finishing the last session 0.5 percent lower. The constructive point is that it has recovered above its recent baseline, but the setback matters because the index remains caught between improving short-term pressure and unresolved overhead supply. Sitting mid-range over the past month reinforces that balanced condition, which means neither side has yet forced a durable change in control.
The one month average at 10,635 is the immediate line separating recovery from relapse because price is above it, while the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. Momentum is roughly 1.1 percent up over the last two weeks, which means recent demand has repaired some damage without yet proving a broader breakout. The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifts in sterling and global risk appetite can transmit quickly through the FTSE 100’s internationally exposed constituents, because that mix can amplify moves originating beyond the domestic economy.
The nearer round number handles at 10,750 and 10,500 define the immediate contest because they bracket the current price and should reveal whether the rebound is attracting follow-through or merely rotating inside the range. Above, the month swing high at 10,892 sits about 2.1 percent above the current price and is meaningful resistance because it marks the point where the recovery would begin to escape the month’s ceiling. Beyond it, 10,990 is the upper boundary of the three month range 10,367 to 10,990, which means progress there would test the broad range itself. Below, 10,500 is the first nearby support handle, while the shelf at 10,367, about 2.8 percent below, is the stronger defence because it is also the range floor.
The bull path is straightforward: if 10,635 continues to hold and 10,750 is cleared with persistence, then pressure can build toward 10,892 because the market would be accepting value above both the recent average and the nearer overhead handle. A decisive move above 10,892 opens the path toward 10,990, which means the recovery attempt would have matured into a challenge of the three-month ceiling. The bear path starts if 10,750 repeatedly caps progress and 10,500 gives way, because that would place the recent rebound under strain and return attention to 10,367. Losing 10,367 exposes 10,250, which means the established range floor has failed and downside discovery has resumed.
The principal risk to the constructive view is a false push through resistance followed by rapid rejection, because the index is still below the longer average and has not escaped its broader range. Conversely, sustained acceptance above 10,892 would invalidate a cautious range view, while a failure back below 10,635 would weaken the recovery thesis before the more serious test at 10,500. Net, the FTSE 100 retains a modest upward bias while holding above 10,635, but conviction belongs only above 10,892 because that is the level that converts repair into a credible range challenge; below 10,367, the read turns decisively bearish toward 10,250.
Key levels: support 10,367 (2.8% below), resistance 10,892 (2.1% above), one-month average 10,635, three-month range 10,367 to 10,990.
