EUR/GBP – Daily Read

0.8443
EUR/GBP is pressing the lower edge of its recent range, with the last price at 0.8443 after finishing the last session 0.1 percent lower. The clear view is that sterling retains control while the cross remains pinned near the floor of its one-month range, because repeated weakness at already depressed levels signals persistent pressure rather than a routine pause. That matters now because the market is testing whether the established decline can extend into fresh range territory or whether nearby support can force a meaningful reset.
The broader macro backdrop matters only through relative expectations for euro-area and UK growth and policy, because EUR/GBP trades the gap between the two rather than either outlook in isolation. The pair is roughly 1.2 percent down over the last two weeks, while the one month average is 0.8527 and price is below it. The structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages, which means recoveries still face an established layer of overhead pressure. The month swing high at 0.8612, about 2.0 percent above the current price, marks where that pressure last proved decisive.
Immediate attention belongs on the shelf of support at 0.8441, about 0.0 percent below, because it is both the floor of the three month range from 0.8441 to 0.8680 and the nearest point where defenders must respond. Holding it would show that the range floor still attracts sufficient demand to absorb pressure. Losing it would instead confirm that the market is no longer respecting the established boundary and expose the nearer round number handle at 0.8400. On the upside, 0.8600 is the first round number handle that matters because reclaiming it would place the pair back near the month’s defining resistance.
The bull path is straightforward: if 0.8441 continues to hold and the pair recovers through 0.8600, then pressure on the downtrend should ease and attention can return to 0.8612. A decisive move above 0.8612 opens the path toward 0.8680, because clearing the month swing high would remove the most important recent ceiling and challenge the prevailing sequence of weakness. The bear path is equally clean: if rebounds fail below 0.8600 and 0.8441 gives way decisively, then 0.8400 becomes exposed, which means the three-month floor has failed rather than merely been tested.
The principal risk to the bearish read is a durable recovery above 0.8612, because that would overturn the immediate pattern of lower prices and shift control toward a test of 0.8680. Conversely, repeated inability to move away from 0.8441 would leave support increasingly vulnerable even if it initially survives. The read is invalidated on the downside only by a recovery that reclaims the key resistance zone and holds there; until then, 0.8527 remains an important dividing line. Net, EUR/GBP remains defensively positioned near 0.8443, with downside continuation favored while 0.8600 and 0.8612 cap recoveries.
Key levels: support 0.8441 (0.0% below), resistance 0.8612 (2.0% above), one-month average 0.8527, three-month range 0.8441 to 0.8680.
