US Dollar Index (DXY) – Daily Read

23 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$101.79

DXY is consolidating rather than reversing, with the last price at 101.79 and the latest session 0.1 percent higher. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, which means neither side has established control after the broader advance. The clear view is cautiously constructive: the longer trend still points up, but near-term price action remains a pullback and needs to reclaim nearby resistance before renewed dollar strength becomes convincing. That distinction matters because consolidation within an upward structure can resolve higher, while failure at familiar resistance would leave the currency exposed to a deeper retracement.

The broader macro backdrop matters because shifting rate expectations and demand for defensive currency exposure can quickly strengthen or weaken the dollar’s relative appeal. DXY-specific pressure is visible in momentum roughly 0.4 percent down over the last two weeks and in the one month average at 101.93, with price below it. The structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up, which means the recent softness has interrupted the advance without yet overturning it. A recovery through 101.93 would improve the immediate tone, while repeated rejection there would show that rallies are still being absorbed.

The first resistance is the nearer round number handle at 102.00, because it sits just above the one month average and therefore marks the point where a routine rebound could begin to regain traction. Above that, the month swing high at 102.94, about 1.1 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling because it defines the upper edge of both the monthly swing and the three month range of 98.56 to 102.94. On the downside, a shelf of support at 100.87, about 0.9 percent below, is the key defense because holding it preserves the pullback interpretation. The other nearer round number handle at 100.00 matters because losing it would confirm a more material deterioration in demand.

If DXY reclaims 101.93 and then holds above 102.00, then pressure can rebuild toward 102.94 because the market would have repaired the immediate loss of traction and cleared nearby resistance. A decisive move above 102.94 opens the path toward 104.00, which means the longer upward trend would be reasserting itself beyond the established range. If price instead fails beneath 101.93 and loses 100.87, then the pullback becomes a broader breakdown because the support shelf protecting the advance would no longer be intact. Losing 100.87 exposes 98.56, with 100.00 likely serving as an important test along that route.

The main risk to the constructive view is sustained trade below 100.87, because that would invalidate the idea that recent weakness is merely corrective and shift attention toward the bottom of the three month range. Conversely, a clean hold above 102.94 would invalidate the bearish case because supply at the range high would have failed. Net, 101.79 leaves DXY balanced but slightly constructive, with confirmation above resistance still required and the downside read changing decisively only if support gives way.
