DAX 40 (DAX) – Daily Read
23 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk
25,146.8
The DAX 40 is caught between a weak broader structure and an incomplete short-term recovery. At 25,147, after finishing the last session 0.9 percent lower, it is trading in the lower half of its one-month range. The clear view is cautiously bearish because strength has not yet repaired the damage, while nearby support still prevents a clean acceleration lower.
The immediate tension comes from momentum running roughly 1.4 percent up over the last two weeks even as price remains below the one-month average of 25,290. That divergence matters because it shows an attempted recovery inside a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages. The macro backdrop matters mainly through the DAX’s exposure to European cyclicals and exporters, which means shifts in growth confidence and global demand can amplify either direction.
The first test overhead is 25,500, because reclaiming that round number would signal that the retreat below 25,290 is being absorbed rather than extended. Above there, the month swing high at 25,783 sits about 2.5 percent above the current price and represents the point where the recent range would give way to a more constructive structure. On the downside, 25,000 is the nearest psychological support, because holding it keeps the market within reach of its average and preserves the recovery attempt. The more important shelf is 24,793, about 1.4 percent below, because repeated demand there separates routine consolidation from renewed trend pressure. The wider three-month range of 24,697 to 26,619 shows how compressed the current battle is within a much broader field.
The bull path is straightforward: if 25,000 holds and price recovers 25,290, then 25,500 becomes the first proof that control is shifting. If that strength then produces a decisive move above 25,783, the path opens toward 26,619 because the month swing high would no longer cap the advance. That sequence would overturn the current lower-half positioning and force a reassessment of the downtrend.
The bear path begins if rallies stall below 25,290 or fail around 25,500, because that would confirm overhead supply where the structure needs acceptance. If 25,000 then gives way, attention shifts quickly to 24,793. Losing 24,793 exposes 24,500 because the established support shelf would have failed, leaving less visible protection beneath it even though 24,697 marks the bottom of the three-month range.
The main risk to the bearish lean is a sustained recovery above 25,783, because that would invalidate the idea that recent strength is merely corrective and would place 26,619 back in play. Conversely, firm defence of 24,793 without a recovery through 25,290 would leave the market trapped rather than decisively weak. Net, the DAX 40 remains vulnerable below 25,500, with 24,793 defining whether caution becomes a deeper downside move.
Key levels: support 24,793 (1.4% below), resistance 25,783 (2.5% above), one-month average 25,290, three-month range 24,697 to 26,619.
