AUD/USD – Daily Read

0.7036
AUD/USD is attempting to turn recovery into a broader upside break, with the last price at 0.7036 after finishing the last session 0.1 percent higher. It is pressing the top of its one-month range, which means the market is no longer merely rebounding from weakness but testing whether demand can absorb supply at the range ceiling. The view is constructive while the pair holds above 0.7000, because sustained trade above that handle would show that recent strength is becoming accepted rather than quickly rejected.
The immediate context is a currency pair caught between improving Australian dollar demand and the gravitational pull of the longer-term structure. The one month average is 0.6996 and price is above it, so the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one, which means the advance has repaired near-term damage without yet confirming a durable trend change. The roughly 1.3 percent rise over the last two weeks reinforces that recovery, because progress has been persistent enough to bring the upper boundary into play. In the macro backdrop, shifts in global risk appetite, China sensitivity and relative rate expectations matter here because they directly affect both the Australian dollar and the broader direction of the US dollar.
The first meaningful test is the month swing high at 0.7070, about 0.5 percent above the current price, because that is where the recent recovery meets visible overhead supply. A decisive move above 0.7070 opens the path toward 0.7241, which means the market would be challenging the upper edge of the three month range of 0.6899 to 0.7241 rather than remaining trapped near its middle. Before that larger boundary, 0.7200 is the nearer round number handle likely to act as resistance because traders often reassess conviction around clean psychological levels. On the downside, 0.7000 is the first support test, while a shelf of support at 0.6899, about 2.0 percent below, matters more because it marks both the range floor and the point from which the recovery structure would fail.
The bull path is straightforward: if 0.7000 continues to hold and price clears 0.7070 decisively, then the recovery should gain credibility and extend toward 0.7200, with 0.7241 becoming the defining resistance because it caps the full three month range. The bear path begins if repeated failure at 0.7070 pushes the pair back beneath 0.7000, which means the breakout pressure has been absorbed. If that retreat then reaches and loses 0.6899, it exposes 0.6800 because the established range floor would no longer be defending the structure.
The main risk is a false break above 0.7070 followed by rapid rejection beneath 0.7000, because that sequence would show that the apparent recovery lacked acceptance. The constructive read is fully invalidated by losing 0.6899, which means downside risk toward 0.6800 takes precedence. Net, AUD/USD has an upside bias while holding 0.7000, but conviction requires a decisive clearance of 0.7070 before the larger move toward 0.7241 can take control.
Key levels: support 0.6899 (2.0% below), resistance 0.7070 (0.5% above), one-month average 0.6996, three-month range 0.6899 to 0.7241.
