GBP/USD – Daily Read

5 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
1.3454

GBP/USD is holding a constructive recovery attempt at 1.3454 despite finishing the last session 0.1 percent lower, which means the pullback has not yet displaced the broader advance. It is pressing the top of its one-month range, so the immediate question is whether sterling can convert elevated positioning into a clean extension. The view remains cautiously bullish because price is holding firm near the range ceiling, but conviction requires confirmation above nearby resistance rather than repeated failure beneath it.

The risk-off backdrop, shaped by mixed PMIs and a firmer dollar, matters here because defensive demand for the US currency is capping sterling’s progress. Even so, GBP/USD is roughly 0.4 percent up over the last two weeks, which means the pair has absorbed that pressure without surrendering its recovery structure. The one month average at 1.3342 now sits below price, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That combination supports further testing higher, but it also leaves the move vulnerable if dollar strength intensifies.

The month swing high at 1.3503 is the first decisive barrier, about 0.4 percent above the current price, because it marks the point where the recent recovery has previously run out of room. Above it, the round number handle at 1.3600 becomes relevant as resistance and a test of whether demand can persist into the upper part of the three month range at 1.3139 to 1.3675. On the downside, 1.3400 is the nearest round number handle and should act as initial support because holding it would keep price close to the range ceiling. The deeper shelf at 1.3139, about 2.3 percent below, carries greater structural weight because it defines the lower boundary of the three month range.

If GBP/USD makes a decisive move above 1.3503, then the path opens toward 1.3675 because the market would have cleared the month swing high and confirmed acceptance beyond the immediate ceiling. Holding above 1.3600 along that route would strengthen the bull case, which means the recovery would be broadening rather than merely probing resistance. If 1.3503 continues to reject advances and 1.3400 gives way, then pressure should rotate back toward 1.3342 because the pair would be losing both its near-term handle and the structure that has supported the recovery attempt.

The main risk is a sharper extension in dollar strength while risk appetite remains weak, because that would make repeated failures near 1.3503 more consequential. A retreat below 1.3342 would weaken the constructive reading, while losing 1.3139 exposes 1.2939, which means the entire three month floor would have failed and the recovery thesis would be invalidated. Conversely, sustained trade above 1.3503 would invalidate the near-term caution around the range ceiling. Net, GBP/USD retains an upward bias while 1.3400 and 1.3342 hold, but only a decisive break of 1.3503 confirms room toward 1.3675.
