Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read

28 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
63,988.9

The Nikkei 225 is attempting to stabilize at 63,989 after finishing the last session 2.9 percent higher, but the rebound has not yet repaired the recent loss of direction. It is trading in the lower half of its one-month range, which means the burden remains on demand to prove that this is more than a short-covering bounce. The clear view is cautiously constructive rather than outright bullish because the longer trend still points up, while the shorter structure remains damaged and vulnerable to another test lower.

The pressure is visible in momentum roughly 5.6 percent down over the last two weeks. The one month average is 66,445; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. That matters because Japan’s equity benchmark is caught between investors respecting the broader advance and traders responding to a meaningful loss of near-term traction. The macro backdrop can amplify the next move through shifts in global risk appetite and currency expectations, but the immediate driver is whether index demand can reclaim lost ground after the recent pullback.

The nearest reference is 64,000, which matters because it sits almost directly above the current price and can separate a rebound that holds from one that quickly fades. Below, 63,000 is the first round number where demand should become visible, because failure there would show that the last session’s strength did not alter underlying pressure. The more important shelf of support is 61,463, about 3.9 percent below. That area is defended by its position above the lower boundary of the three month range 60,449 to 71,399, which means it is the last substantial buffer before the broader advance faces a deeper structural challenge.

On the upside, the month swing high is 70,799, about 10.6 percent above the current price. It is decisive resistance because reaching it would require the Nikkei 225 to reverse the recent pullback, recover the one month average, and sustain demand through the upper part of its recent range. If price first holds 63,000, establishes acceptance above 64,000, and then recovers 66,445, the bull path becomes credible; a decisive move above 70,799 opens the path toward 71,399. If those nearer handles reject the rebound and pressure returns, the bear path is a retest of 61,463; losing 61,463 exposes 60,449, which means the correction would be probing the floor of the three month range rather than merely consolidating above it.

The principal risk to the constructive view is that the 2.9 percent higher session proves temporary because damaged momentum can produce sharp rebounds without changing direction. A sustained recovery above 66,445 would invalidate the immediate bearish pressure, while a failure at 64,000 followed by a loss of 63,000 would weaken the rebound case. Net, the Nikkei 225 remains in an upward longer trend but is still working through a pullback, which means conviction should follow acceptance above resistance or failure below support rather than the size of one strong session.
