Copper – Daily Read

24 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$6.40

Copper is correcting inside a broader upward trend, with the last price at $6.40 after finishing the last session 2.7 percent lower. The near-term read is defensive because it is down near the floor of its one-month range and recent weakness has not yet found a convincing demand response. The clear view is that downside pressure remains live while support is tested, but the larger advance is not broken unless the market loses the range floor.

The broader macro backdrop matters through shifting expectations for global industrial demand and currency conditions, because copper is especially sensitive to changes in perceived manufacturing activity and financing conditions. The immediate catalyst is the market’s failure to hold its one month average $6.62; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Performance is roughly 2.8 percent down over the last two weeks, which means near-term positioning is being reduced faster than the longer trend is deteriorating.

The nearer round number handles at $6.60 and $6.40 now separate stabilization from continued retreat. Reclaiming $6.60 would matter because it would restore price above the nearby psychological barrier and place the one-month average back within reach. Holding $6.40 keeps the market anchored around the current price, but the more important shelf of support at $6.38, about 0.3 percent below, is the immediate defense against a deeper correction. That shelf matters because demand must appear there to preserve the current range structure. The Three month range $5.97 to $6.93 defines the larger battlefield. The Month swing high $6.93, about 8.3 percent above the current price, is firm resistance because it marks the point where previous upward progress stalled.

The bull path is straightforward: if $6.38 holds and price regains $6.40, then a recovery through $6.60 can challenge the one month average $6.62. If that area is accepted rather than briefly tested, then pressure can rotate back toward the range ceiling. A decisive move above $6.93 opens the path toward $7.13 because clearing the Month swing high would confirm that the pullback has ended and the longer upward trend has resumed. The bear path begins if repeated attempts to recover $6.40 fail. Losing $6.38 exposes $5.97, which means the correction would no longer be contained by nearby support and would instead threaten the base of the broader range.

The main risk to the cautious view is a rapid recovery above $6.62, because that would show the latest decline was a temporary shakeout rather than the start of sustained weakness. Conversely, failure at $6.40 followed by a clean loss of $6.38 would invalidate the constructive longer-term interpretation and shift attention fully toward $5.97. Net, copper remains in an upward longer trend, but the desk stance stays guarded until support proves durable and the market reclaims the levels surrendered during this pullback.
