US Dollar Index (DXY) – Daily Read

$102.19
The US Dollar Index is testing the upper boundary of its recent range with control still resting with buyers. Last price 102.19, 0.1 percent higher on the day, leaves DXY pressing the top of its one-month range rather than retreating from it. That matters because sustained strength here would confirm that dollar demand is broadening beyond a routine rebound. The view remains constructive while the market holds its recent structure, but the proximity of resistance means buyers now need to prove they can convert pressure into a genuine breakout.
The macro backdrop is best understood through relative demand for the dollar. Expectations around US policy, growth resilience, risk appetite, and demand for liquidity all feed into this asset class, but the important message from DXY itself is that buyers continue to accept progressively firmer prices. Momentum roughly 1.0 percent up over the last two weeks supports that interpretation. The one month average 101.33 sits below price, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, price above both its one-month and longer averages. This is therefore a market approaching resistance with underlying demand intact, not one arriving there from an exhausted vertical move.
The immediate battleground is the month swing high 102.54, about 0.3 percent above the current price. That level defines the ceiling of the three month range 98.56 to 102.54, so it is likely to attract profit-taking from existing longs and selling from traders expecting the range to persist. A decisive move above 102.54 would show that this supply has been absorbed and opens the path toward 104.00. The nearer 102.00 handle is the first point buyers should defend. Holding above it preserves pressure on the range high, while repeated closes below it would suggest the breakout attempt is losing urgency.
The more important downside reference is a shelf of support at 99.07, about 3.1 percent below. That shelf matters because it separates a controlled pullback within the broader advance from a material deterioration in structure. Buyers defending it would keep the larger recovery credible. Losing 99.07 exposes 98.56, the lower boundary of the broader range, and would indicate that sellers have regained control rather than merely forced a temporary reset.
The bull path is straightforward: if DXY holds 102.00, continues to build acceptance near the range ceiling, and then makes a decisive move above 102.54, the market can extend toward 104.00 as trapped range sellers cover and momentum buyers engage. The bear path begins if rejection at the ceiling pushes price below 102.00 and follow-through selling develops. If that weakness reaches and breaks 99.07, then 98.56 becomes the logical downside destination.
The main risk to the constructive read is a failed breakout that quickly returns price deep into the range. That would reveal insufficient demand at elevated levels and invalidate the assumption that buyers are ready to establish a higher trading zone. Net, the dollar remains structurally firm and the upside case has the cleaner setup, but confirmation requires resistance to break and then hold.
