AUD/USD – Daily Read

17 September 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.7092

AUD/USD is testing whether a sharp pullback remains corrective or is becoming a broader reversal. Last price 0.7092, 0.0 percent higher on the day. It is down near the floor of its one-month range, leaving buyers with little room to absorb further US dollar pressure. The longer trend still points up, but the immediate burden of proof sits with the bulls. Until the pair reclaims lost ground, rallies are more likely to meet supply than attract sustained follow-through.

The catalyst is a firmer US dollar after the Federal Reserve reinforced a restrictive policy message, lifting US yields and strengthening the dollar across foreign exchange. That matters especially for AUD/USD because relative rate expectations are competing with the Australian dollar’s sensitivity to global risk appetite and China-linked demand. Expectations of a firm Reserve Bank of Australia stance provide domestic support, while cautious market sentiment limits the benefit. Momentum roughly 1.8 percent down over the last two weeks captures that conflict: the Australian story has not collapsed, but the US side has gained control of the near-term move.

The one month average is 0.7173; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. That makes 0.7173 the first meaningful recovery test. Regaining it would suggest recent selling is being absorbed and would redirect attention toward the nearer round number handle at 0.7200. Above there, the month swing high is 0.7241, about 2.1 percent above the current price. Sellers are likely to defend that high because it marks the upper boundary of both the recent advance and the three month range of 0.6879 to 0.7241.

A shelf of support sits at 0.7080, about 0.2 percent below. It matters because buyers must defend it to preserve the pullback interpretation. A sustained failure there would show that demand near the range floor has been exhausted. The nearer round number handle at 0.7000 would then become an important psychological battleground, but it would not remove the risk of a deeper return through the range.

The bull path is clear: if 0.7080 holds and price recovers 0.7173, then pressure can shift back toward 0.7200. If buyers subsequently produce a decisive move above 0.7241, that confirms a renewed upside extension and opens the path toward 0.7400. The bear path is equally direct: if repeated rebounds fail beneath 0.7173 and selling then takes out 0.7080, losing 0.7080 exposes 0.6879. In that sequence, 0.7000 may slow the move, but the lower boundary becomes the more credible destination.

The principal risk to the bearish near-term view is a rapid reversal in US dollar demand combined with renewed confidence in the Australian policy outlook and global growth. The bullish view is invalidated if 0.7080 fails decisively and cannot be reclaimed. Net, the larger uptrend deserves respect, but immediate control remains with sellers until AUD/USD recovers 0.7173.
