Silver (XAG/USD) – Daily Read

28 August 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$71.21

Silver is testing the ceiling of its recent range with a firm bullish bias, but the location matters as much as the direction. Last price $71.21, 1.6 percent higher on the day. It is pressing the top of its one-month range after a strong advance, so buyers are in control but now face a level where follow-through must replace simple upward drift. The clean view is constructive while price holds the nearby breakout area, with the next move likely determined by whether demand can absorb selling around the range high.

The macro backdrop offers neither a decisive tailwind nor a fatal obstacle. Hotter than expected inflation prints in France and Spain lifted near term European rate expectations, while steady Japanese labour data and modest upside in Tokyo CPI kept the BoJ policy path intact. EURUSD and GBPUSD both fell over half a percent as the dollar gained ground. That firmer dollar would normally restrain precious metals, making silver’s strength more notable. For the commodity complex, this relative resilience suggests instrument-specific demand is outweighing the currency headwind for now. The broader regime remains balanced ahead of the weekend, however, so conviction needs confirmation from price rather than macro extrapolation.

The one month average $65.68 sits beneath the market and gives the advance an important structural anchor. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, price above both its one-month and longer averages. The advance is roughly 9.8 percent up over the last two weeks, which confirms strong sponsorship but also raises the risk of sharp profit-taking near resistance. The month swing high $71.78, about 0.8 percent above the current price, is the immediate test because it marks the point where the current range either resolves higher or rejects buyers again. The nearer round number handles at $72.00 and $70.00 frame that contest. Holding $70.00 would show that dips are still being absorbed, while acceptance through $72.00 would strengthen the breakout case.

The wider three month range $56.13 to $90.11 shows both the available upside and the depth of prior volatility. If silver makes a decisive move above $71.78, then the range ceiling has given way and the path opens toward $90.11, with $72.00 needing to become support rather than resistance. If buyers fail at the high and price loses $70.00, then a deeper reset becomes credible. A shelf of support at $56.71, about 20.4 percent below, is the major structural defence because it stands just above the broader range floor. If selling reaches and then breaks that shelf, losing $56.71 exposes $56.13.

The key risk to the bullish read is a stronger dollar combining with weekend de-risking to turn a breakout attempt into a rejection. Failure to hold $70.00 would weaken near term control, while a sustained move back beneath $65.68 would challenge the clean uptrend. The read is fully invalidated by a loss of the major support shelf. Net, silver remains bullish but is no longer in an easy location: confirmation above $71.78 favours expansion, while rejection below nearby support shifts the focus from continuation to protection.
