USD/JPY – Daily Read

3 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.86

USD/JPY is consolidating rather than reversing, with the last price at 157.86 and little changed on the session (under 0.05%). It is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, which means underlying dollar demand remains present despite fading short-term momentum. The clear view is cautiously constructive: the longer trend still points up, but the pair must reclaim nearby resistance before that strength can translate into another sustained advance.

The immediate context is a controlled pullback because the price is below the one month average of 157.91, slipping under that reference while the broader structure remains upward. Momentum is roughly 0.2 percent down over the last two weeks, which means recent positioning has lost urgency without yet producing a decisive shift in direction. Relative rate expectations and sensitivity to possible Japanese policy responses remain the relevant macro channels because they directly shape the yield appeal and intervention risk embedded in this currency pair.

The month swing high at 158.95 sits about 0.7 percent above the current price and matters because it marks the point where the recent pullback would give way to renewed trend continuation. Until that level is cleared decisively, rallies can still meet supply from participants using the prior high to reduce exposure. Above it, the round number handle at 160.00 becomes the next psychological test because sustained trade there would show that concerns about official resistance are being absorbed. On the downside, a shelf of support at 156.07 lies about 1.1 percent below and is defended by the recent range structure. The nearer 155.00 handle adds psychological support beneath it, which means weakness through both areas would represent more than ordinary consolidation. The full three month range of 152.88 to 163.95 defines the broader boundaries within which conviction must be judged.

The bull path is straightforward: if USD/JPY records a decisive move above 158.95, then the pullback is resolved in favor of the longer uptrend and the path opens toward 163.95, with 160.00 serving as the first test of follow-through. That outcome gains credibility because former resistance would need to hold on any retest. The bear path begins if 156.07 is lost with persistence, because that would expose 152.88 and turn the recent softness into a deeper correction. Failure to stabilize near 155.00 would strengthen that bearish reading, which means the market would be repricing the durability of the broader advance.

The main risk to the constructive view is that calm price action masks a distribution phase beneath 157.91, because repeated failure to recover the one month average would make the longer uptrend progressively less useful. A decisive loss of 156.07 invalidates the near-term bullish bias, while acceptance below 155.00 would confirm that sellers control the range. Conversely, sustained strength through 158.95 invalidates the pullback concern. Net, USD/JPY remains upward-biased but not yet released, with confirmation required at resistance and discipline required at support.
