GBP/USD – Daily Read

1.3450
GBP/USD is testing whether a recovery can become a broader advance, with the last price at 1.3450 and the last session 0.3 percent higher. It is pressing the top of its one-month range, which means the market is no longer merely rebounding from weakness but challenging the boundary that has contained recent strength. The view is cautiously bullish because price is holding near that boundary rather than retreating sharply, although confirmation still requires a clean break through nearby resistance.
The macro backdrop matters through shifting relative rate expectations and dollar demand because both directly affect the value placed on sterling against the US currency. For GBP/USD specifically, momentum is roughly 0.4 percent up over the last two weeks, showing a measured recovery rather than an overextended surge. The one month average is 1.3330; price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That distinction matters because near-term control has improved, while the larger trend has not yet fully turned.
The immediate test is the month swing high at 1.3479, about 0.2 percent above the current price. This level matters because it marks the clearest recent rejection point and the top of the present one-month contest. A decisive move above 1.3479 opens the path toward 1.3675, with 1.3600 acting as the nearer round number handle where progress could slow. The broader three month range is 1.3139 to 1.3675, which means 1.3675 is not arbitrary resistance but the upper boundary of a much larger balance area.
On the downside, 1.3400 is the first round number handle that should help distinguish a shallow pause from a failed challenge because it sits close enough to current price to reflect immediate conviction. Below there, the shelf of support at 1.3139, about 2.3 percent below, is the structural line that matters most. It is defended by its role as both the lower end of the three month range and a prior floor, which means sustained trade beneath it would replace the recovery narrative with renewed downside expansion.
The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD clears 1.3479 decisively and then holds above it, the range ceiling has yielded, which means 1.3600 becomes the next test before 1.3675. Acceptance through 1.3675 would signal that the three month range is resolving upward. The bear path begins if resistance at 1.3479 forces price back through 1.3400; if that weakness extends to 1.3139 and the shelf fails, then losing 1.3139 exposes 1.2939 because the established floor would no longer be containing pressure.
The principal risk to the constructive read is a false break above 1.3479 followed by rapid rejection under 1.3400, because that would show exhaustion at the one-month extreme. A sustained loss of 1.3139 would fully invalidate the recovery view. Net, GBP/USD retains an upward bias while above 1.3400, but only acceptance beyond 1.3479 converts that bias into a credible challenge of 1.3675.
Key levels: support 1.3139 (2.3% below), resistance 1.3479 (0.2% above), one-month average 1.3330, three-month range 1.3139 to 1.3675.
