FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read

The FTSE 100 is in a controlled pullback, not a confirmed trend reversal. Last price is 10,674 after finishing the last session 1.0 percent lower, while momentum is roughly 0.2 percent down over the last two weeks. That combination shows pressure without acceleration. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, which means neither side has established control at an extreme. The clear view is cautiously constructive because the longer trend still points up, but near-term conviction remains weak until price recovers the ground lost around its recent reference levels.
The one month average is 10,735; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. That matters because weakness beneath this reference can keep rallies hesitant even when the broader direction remains positive. For this index, the macro channel runs through global risk appetite, sterling-sensitive overseas revenues and the commodity-heavy composition of UK large caps, which means shifts in those forces can amplify or soften domestic pressure. The immediate catalyst is therefore whether weakness attracts demand or develops into broader de-risking.
The nearer round number handles at 10,750 and 10,500 define the immediate contest. A recovery through 10,750 would repair some short-term damage because it would also place price back above 10,735, while failure there would confirm that overhead supply remains active. The 10,500 handle matters as the first psychological buffer below current price. Beneath it, a shelf of support at 10,367, about 2.9 percent below, becomes decisive because it is also the floor of the three month range 10,367 to 10,990. The month swing high is 10,948, about 2.6 percent above the current price, and its proximity to the range ceiling makes it the key resistance test.
The bull path is straightforward: if 10,750 is reclaimed and then defended, pressure should ease and attention can return to 10,948 because sustained trade above the nearer handle would show that the pullback is being absorbed. A decisive move above 10,948 opens the path toward 11,000, which means the market would have cleared the recent swing barrier and challenged the upper edge of the broader range. The bear path begins if 10,500 gives way and cannot be recovered. In that case, pressure should rotate toward 10,367, and losing 10,367 exposes 10,250 because the established range floor would no longer be containing the decline.
The principal risk to the constructive view is not ordinary noise around 10,735, but acceptance below 10,367. That would invalidate the idea of a contained pullback because support, the three month floor and the longer upward structure would all be under direct strain. Conversely, repeated rejection beneath 10,948 would keep the index range-bound even if 10,750 is recovered. Net, the FTSE 100 remains broadly constructive but tactically fragile: resilience above 10,500 preserves the recovery case, while 10,367 is the line that separates consolidation from a materially deeper decline toward 10,250.
Key levels: support 10,367 (2.9% below), resistance 10,948 (2.6% above), one-month average 10,735, three-month range 10,367 to 10,990.
