EUR/GBP – Daily Read

16 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.8441

EUR/GBP is pressing the lower edge of its recent range, with the last price at 0.8441 after finishing the last session 0.1 percent lower. The clear view is that sterling retains the advantage and the cross remains vulnerable, because price is down near the floor of its one-month range rather than stabilising nearer the middle. That matters because weakness at the bottom of a range can become self-reinforcing once support gives way, although the limited distance to support also leaves room for a sharp rebound if sellers cannot extend the move.

The one month average is 0.8514, and price is below it, while the structure reads as a downtrend with price under both its one-month and longer averages. Momentum is roughly 0.7 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the move has developed steadily rather than through one isolated session. The macro backdrop matters here only through relative expectations for the UK and euro area, because EUR/GBP responds to which currency attracts stronger rate and growth support. For now, the price action says that balance continues to favour sterling, but the proximity of the range floor warns that much of the immediate bearish pressure is already concentrated around a well-defined area.

The first defence is the shelf of support at 0.8426, about 0.2 percent below, because it is also the bottom of the three month range of 0.8426 to 0.8680. Holding that shelf would show that the broader range remains intact and could force a rotation back toward the one month average at 0.8514. Losing 0.8426 exposes the nearer round number handle at 0.8400, which means the market would be extending beneath a floor that has contained it across the three month range. On the upside, the nearer round number handle at 0.8600 is an initial psychological barrier before the month swing high at 0.8612, about 2.0 percent above the current price. That high matters because a decisive move above 0.8612 opens the path toward 0.8680 and would challenge the prevailing downtrend rather than merely produce a corrective bounce.

The bull path is straightforward: if 0.8426 holds and price reclaims 0.8514, then pressure can build toward 0.8600 because the failed breakdown would leave the market needing to reprice the recent sterling advantage. If 0.8612 then breaks decisively, the path toward 0.8680 opens as the upper boundary of the three month range becomes relevant. The bear path is equally clear: if rebounds remain capped below 0.8514 and 0.8426 gives way, then 0.8400 becomes exposed because the established range floor would no longer be defending the cross.

The main risk to the bearish read is a change in relative UK and euro-area expectations that carries EUR/GBP back above 0.8514, because sustained acceptance there would show that downward pressure is fading. A decisive move above 0.8612 would invalidate the near-term bearish structure and shift attention to 0.8680. Conversely, holding below 0.8514 and losing 0.8426 would confirm continuation toward 0.8400. Net, the cross remains bearish, but conviction should hinge on whether the range floor breaks rather than on weakness alone.
