DAX 40 (DAX) – Daily Read

24 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
25,181.7

The DAX 40 is caught between a short-term recovery attempt and a still-dominant decline, with the last price at 25,182 after finishing 0.7 percent lower. That tension matters because momentum has improved without repairing the broader structure, leaving the market vulnerable to another rejection unless price can reclaim meaningful overhead ground. It is trading in the lower half of its one-month range, which means the burden remains on the bulls to prove that recent resilience is more than a temporary pause.

The macro backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations for European growth, policy and global trade can quickly reprice this export-heavy, cyclical index because its constituents are unusually sensitive to financing conditions and overseas demand. Momentum is roughly 1.5 percent up over the last two weeks, but that improvement has not changed the prevailing message. The one month average is 25,292 and price is below it, while the structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages. This suggests the recent advance has been corrective because sustained control has not yet moved back to the upside.

The immediate battleground is defined by the nearer round number handles at 25,500 and 25,000. The 25,000 area matters because it is the closest psychological reference beneath spot and should reveal whether demand can absorb renewed pressure. Holding it would preserve the recovery attempt, while repeated closes beneath it would weaken confidence in the nearby floor. At 25,500, resistance is likely to be defended because reclaiming that handle would place price back above the one month average and improve the quality of the rebound. The month swing high at 25,783, about 2.4 percent above the current price, is the more consequential ceiling because clearing it would overturn the sequence of failed upside attempts.

Below, a shelf of support at 24,793, about 1.5 percent below, is the key defensive line because it separates ordinary consolidation from renewed trend deterioration. Its importance is reinforced by the lower boundary of the three month range at 24,697, while the upper boundary stands at 26,619. That broader range shows how much room remains in either direction, which means confirmation at the nearer boundaries carries more weight than movement inside the middle of the range.

The bull path is straightforward: if 25,000 holds, then a recovery through 25,500 can challenge 25,783; a decisive move above 25,783 opens the path toward 26,619 because it would break the most relevant monthly ceiling and materially improve structure. The bear path is equally clear: if 25,000 fails and pressure reaches 24,793, then losing 24,793 exposes 24,500 because the established shelf would no longer be containing the decline. The main risk to the bearish read is a sustained break above 25,783, while the recovery case is invalidated by a clean loss of 24,793. Net, the DAX remains tactically resilient but structurally defensive, with conviction dependent on which boundary breaks first.
