Crude Oil (WTI) – Daily Read

$90.50
WTI’s 2.3 percent higher last session move to $90.50 is a meaningful attempt to stabilize, but it does not yet end the pullback because crude remains in the lower half of its one-month range. The longer trend still points up, so the current weakness looks corrective rather than decisively bearish. Even so, roughly 8.7 percent down over the last two weeks shows that sellers retain near-term control, which means the recovery needs follow-through before the market can credibly reassert its broader advance.
The macro backdrop offers little immediate help because mixed PMIs and a firmer dollar preserve the risk-off tone, with German factory orders rising 4.4% after a 10.1% drop, EA construction PMI at 42.5, and DXY up 0.1% to 101.61. For crude specifically, the central issue is whether improving demand expectations can overcome the recent liquidation. Price is below the one month average at $97.18, which means the structure still reads as a pullback slipping beneath its recent center of gravity, even while the longer trend remains constructive.
The first battle is around the nearby round number handles at $92.00 and $90.00 because they separate a developing rebound from renewed pressure on the lows. Holding $90.00 keeps the latest advance intact, while sustained trade above $92.00 would show that the bounce is gaining acceptance and could begin pulling price back toward $97.18. The more important defensive shelf sits at $86.86, about 4.0 percent below, because that area marks where longer-horizon demand must reappear if the broader uptrend is still healthy. A failure there would convert an orderly pullback into a materially weaker structure.
On the upside, the month swing high at $103.92, about 14.8 percent above the current price, is the decisive resistance because clearing it would confirm that the correction has been absorbed. If WTI first reclaims $92.00, then establishes itself above $97.18, the probability of retesting $103.92 rises. A decisive move above $103.92 opens the path toward $105.63, which is also the upper boundary of the three month range of $70.77 to $105.63. On the downside, if $90.00 fails and pressure carries through $86.86, then $70.77 becomes exposed because the market would have lost its principal nearby support and reopened the full range.
The main risk to the constructive view is that the 2.3 percent higher session proves to be only a short-lived reaction inside a continuing decline because price has not yet repaired the damage beneath $97.18. Sustained strength above that average would invalidate the immediate bearish pressure, while a decisive break of $103.92 would invalidate the pullback thesis entirely. Conversely, losing $86.86 exposes $70.77 and would invalidate the assumption that the longer trend remains supportive. Net, WTI is attempting to base at $90.50, but conviction turns materially stronger only above $97.18, while $86.86 remains the line that must hold.
Key levels: support $86.86 (4.0% below), resistance $103.92 (14.8% above), one-month average $97.18, three-month range $70.77 to $105.63.
