Copper – Daily Read

16 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$6.56

Copper is correcting inside a broader upward trend, with the last price at $6.56 after finishing 0.8 percent lower. It is trading in the lower half of its one-month range, which means near-term control has shifted toward the bears even though the larger advance has not yet been broken. The clear view is cautious while price remains below nearby overhead levels, but not outright bearish because the current weakness still reads as a pullback rather than a confirmed trend reversal.

As a growth-sensitive commodity, copper is vulnerable when confidence in future industrial demand softens, and that pressure matters here because momentum is roughly 4.8 percent down over the last two weeks. The one month average is $6.65, and price is below it, which means the market has lost a reference point that previously helped sustain the advance. Slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up creates a contest between shorter-term liquidation and longer-term demand. That tension explains why the next directional move should carry more information than the latest session alone.

The nearer round number handle at $6.60 is the first resistance because reclaiming it would show that weakness around the current price is being absorbed. The $6.65 one month average matters next, since sustained trade above it would improve the structure and put the month swing high at $6.93 back in play. That high is about 5.6 percent above the current price and also marks the top of the three month range of $5.97 to $6.93, which means it is the decisive ceiling. Below, a shelf of support at $6.42 sits about 2.1 percent below, with the $6.40 round number handle reinforcing that area because participants often defend closely grouped references more aggressively.

The bull path is straightforward: if copper regains $6.60, holds above $6.65, and then sustains a decisive move above $6.93, the pullback has likely completed and the path opens toward $7.13. That sequence matters because each step would remove a separate layer of overhead supply and confirm that the longer upward trend has regained control. The bear path begins if rebounds fail beneath $6.60 and $6.65, then pressure forces price through $6.42. Losing $6.42 exposes $5.97, which means the entire three-month advance would face a much deeper test rather than a routine consolidation.

The main risk to the constructive longer-term view is persistent failure below $6.65 because that would allow the two-week decline to keep shaping expectations. A decisive loss of $6.42, followed by acceptance below $6.40, would invalidate the pullback interpretation and shift the read toward a broader unwind into $5.97. Conversely, strength through $6.93 would invalidate the cautious near-term stance. Net, copper remains structurally constructive but tactically pressured, with confirmation required above resistance and discipline required at support.
