Copper – Daily Read

10 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$6.70

Copper is attempting to recover, but the move is not yet a clean breakout. Last price $6.70, 2.1 percent higher on the day. That strength matters because it restores some near-term control to buyers after a soft fortnight, yet the broader structure still calls for discipline. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, so this is better read as a rebuilding phase than the start of an established advance. The clear view is cautiously constructive while price holds above its short-term center of gravity, with stronger conviction reserved for a break of the recent ceiling.

The macro backdrop leaves copper pulled between cyclical demand expectations and sensitivity to global growth, the dollar, interest-rate expectations, and Chinese industrial activity. Supply disruption risk can amplify rallies, but demand confidence ultimately determines whether gains persist. For the commodity complex, copper remains an important expression of manufacturing and infrastructure sentiment, making sustained buying more meaningful than a single strong session. Momentum roughly 2.9 percent down over the last two weeks shows that recent pressure has not been fully repaired. One month average $6.62; price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That split explains why buyers have an opening, but not yet confirmation.

The nearer round number handles at $6.80 and $6.60 frame immediate control. Holding above $6.60 would show that buyers are defending the recovery near its base, while acceptance above $6.80 would indicate that demand is following through rather than merely covering weakness. The month swing high $6.93, about 3.5 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling because it also marks the top of the three month range $6.02 to $6.93. A decisive move above $6.93 opens the path toward $7.00, where the next test would be whether fresh buying can sustain price beyond the established range. A shelf of support at $6.40, about 4.4 percent below, is the more important defensive line. It represents the area where medium-term buyers must prevent the recovery from turning into renewed distribution. Losing $6.40 exposes $6.02, the range floor and the point where the broader structure would materially deteriorate.

The bull path is straightforward: if copper protects $6.60, absorbs supply around $6.80, and then clears $6.93 decisively, the market can extend toward $7.00 as sidelined buyers respond to a confirmed range break. The bear path begins if strength fades beneath $6.60. If that rejection leads to a loss of $6.40, then the recovery thesis fails and attention shifts toward $6.02 as sellers regain control.

The main risk is a macro shift that weakens industrial demand expectations or tightens financial conditions enough to overwhelm commodity-specific support. The bullish read is invalidated by sustained trade below $6.40, while the bearish case is invalidated by firm acceptance above $6.93. Net, copper has improved, but buyers still need to convert recovery into breakout.
