Copper – Daily Read

7 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$6.63

Copper is consolidating within an intact broader advance, but the near-term tape has lost enough energy to demand proof before the next leg higher. Last price $6.63, 0.4 percent lower on the day. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, which matters because neither side currently controls the range. The clear view is cautiously constructive: constrained supply still supports the longer trend, while soft physical demand and tighter financial conditions leave the market vulnerable to a deeper reset.

The macro backdrop is pulling copper in opposing directions. Restrictive US policy and a firm dollar raise financing costs and weigh on dollar-priced commodities, while uncertainty around the policy outlook keeps risk appetite sensitive to incoming signals. Within copper, tight concentrate availability and planned refinery maintenance reinforce the supply argument. Against that, cautious Chinese buying, high physical premiums, and an unconvincing seasonal demand recovery limit the urgency to chase. This is therefore a contest between a credible scarcity story and end users resisting elevated prices.

The one month average is $6.64; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Momentum is roughly 0.1 percent down over the last two weeks, confirming drift rather than aggressive liquidation. The nearer round number handles at $6.80 and $6.60 define the immediate battle. Holding $6.60 would show that buyers still view weakness as inventory opportunity, while reclaiming $6.80 would suggest demand is becoming less price-sensitive and sellers are losing control.

The month swing high is $6.93, about 4.5 percent above the current price. That is the ceiling where the market previously found supply, so acceptance above it would convert resistance into evidence of renewed price discovery. A shelf of support sits at $6.40, about 3.4 percent below. It matters because buyers have previously defended that area, and failure there would turn an orderly pullback into a broader correction. The three month range is $6.02 to $6.93, framing both the larger advance and the downside space available if support gives way.

The bull path is straightforward: if $6.60 holds, price recovers $6.64, and buying carries through $6.80, then pressure should build against the range ceiling. A decisive move above $6.93 opens the path toward $7.00, with supply tightness providing the fundamental rationale. The bear path begins if attempts above $6.64 repeatedly fail and $6.60 stops attracting buyers. If that weakness extends through $6.40, then losing $6.40 exposes $6.02 as the market searches for stronger demand.

The principal risk to the constructive view is that weak Chinese consumption persists long enough to overwhelm the supply narrative. Conversely, a firmer physical market would invalidate the bearish path by showing that elevated prices are being absorbed. Net, copper remains structurally bullish but tactically unsettled: defend $6.40 and the pullback stays healthy; lose it and the correction becomes the dominant trade.
