GBP/USD – Daily Read

1.3350
GBP/USD is attempting to recover rather than beginning a clean advance. Last price is 1.3350 after the last session finished 0.8 percent lower, and it is sitting mid-range over the past month, which means neither side has established control. The constructive point is that sterling has regained an important reference area. The caution is that the latest decline shows conviction remains fragile. The clear view is mildly constructive while that recovered ground holds, but the pair still needs to clear nearby resistance before the recovery can become a sustained trend.
The one month average is 1.3348; price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That distinction matters because short-term pressure has eased without reversing the broader restraint. Momentum is roughly 0.2 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the rebound lacks strong follow-through and remains vulnerable to renewed dollar demand. In the macro backdrop, relative expectations for UK and US policy are the relevant catalyst because currencies respond to changes in the expected rate gap, and sterling currently needs that repricing to turn more favorable before it can extend decisively.
The nearer round number handle at 1.3400 is the first resistance because it sits just above current trade and can reveal whether the recovery has enough demand behind it. Above there, the month swing high at 1.3503, about 1.1 percent above the current price, is the more important ceiling. It marks the point where recent advances have failed, so a firm break would signal that supply has been absorbed. Below, 1.3200 is the first round number support and should attract defensive interest. The shelf of support at 1.3139, about 1.6 percent below, is more consequential because it also defines the floor of the three month range 1.3139 to 1.3675. Losing that shelf would turn a contained pullback into a broader deterioration.
The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD holds above its recovered average, clears 1.3400 and then posts a decisive move above 1.3503, that opens the path toward 1.3675 because the upper boundary of the broader range would become the next meaningful resistance. The bear path begins if rebounds repeatedly fail beneath the month high and price falls through 1.3200. If that weakness then loses 1.3139, it exposes 1.3000 because the established range floor would no longer be defending the structure, leaving the market searching for support at the next major round number.
The principal risk to the constructive read is another sharp shift in relative policy expectations or persistent dollar strength while GBP/USD remains capped below 1.3503, because that would reinforce the longer-term restraint and drain momentum from the recovery. A sustained loss of 1.3348 would weaken the immediate case, while a break beneath 1.3139 would invalidate it and favor continuation toward 1.3000. Conversely, acceptance above 1.3503 would invalidate the cautious stance. Net, the pair is recovering but not yet trending, with upside credibility dependent on clearing resistance and downside risk contained only while the range floor holds.
Key levels: support 1.3139 (1.6% below), resistance 1.3503 (1.1% above), one-month average 1.3348, three-month range 1.3139 to 1.3675.
