AUD/USD – Daily Read

0.6937
AUD/USD at 0.6937, 1.0 percent lower in the last session, is under sustained pressure, and the balance of risk remains tilted lower because price is trading in the lower half of its one-month range while the broader structure reads as a downtrend. The decline is not yet disorderly, but it matters because the pair is approaching support with little evidence that control has shifted away from the bearish side.
The immediate catalyst is the combination of weaker risk appetite and relative currency demand. German factory orders rose 4.4% after a 10.1% drop, EA construction PMI printed 42.5, and DXY climbed 0.1% to 101.61, which means a manufacturing rebound has not offset persistent growth concerns or modest dollar strength. That backdrop is particularly restrictive for the Australian dollar because it tends to perform better when global growth confidence and risk appetite are improving together, neither of which is evident in the current move.
The one month average at 0.6997 is the first important reference because price is below it and under both its one-month and longer averages, which means rebounds are still corrective unless that area is reclaimed and held. The nearby 0.7000 handle reinforces resistance because it combines a round number with the point where the pair would begin repairing recent damage. Momentum is roughly 1.2 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the burden remains on the bullish side to prove that any recovery has durability rather than merely reflecting short covering.
Above that zone, the month swing high at 0.7070 sits about 1.9 percent above the current price and defines the larger reversal test because it marks the strongest recent rejection area. A decisive move above 0.7070 opens the path toward 0.7241, which is also the upper boundary of the three month range of 0.6899 to 0.7241. Such a break would matter because it would overturn the sequence of weakness and force a reassessment from downtrend continuation toward range recovery.
On the downside, the shelf of support at 0.6899 is about 0.6 percent below and is the immediate line of defence because it is both the three month range floor and the closest established demand area. If 0.6899 holds and price then recovers 0.7000, the bull path becomes a push through 0.6997 followed by a test of 0.7070. If 0.6899 gives way decisively, the bear path points to 0.6800 because losing the range floor would remove nearby structural support and expose the next round number handle.
The main risk to the bearish read is a rapid recovery through 0.6997 and 0.7000, followed by acceptance above 0.7070, because that sequence would invalidate the assumption that rebounds remain corrective. Conversely, repeated failure beneath 0.7000 while 0.6899 absorbs pressure would increase the chance of an eventual downside break. Net, AUD/USD remains vulnerable at 0.6937, with 0.6899 deciding whether weakness extends toward 0.6800 and 0.7070 defining what would conclusively change the read.
Key levels: support 0.6899 (0.6% below), resistance 0.7070 (1.9% above), one-month average 0.6997, three-month range 0.6899 to 0.7241.
