AUD/USD – Daily Read

0.6947
AUD/USD is attempting to stabilize at 0.6947 after finishing the last session 0.3 percent higher, but the broader message remains defensive because it is down near the floor of its one-month range. The rebound matters as an early test of whether pressure is becoming exhausted, yet one positive session does not reverse a structure still tilted lower. The clear view is cautiously bearish below nearby overhead resistance, with stabilization possible but sustained strength still requiring proof.
The macro connection is through shifting relative-rate expectations, global risk appetite, and China-sensitive commodity demand, which means AUD/USD remains exposed when investors prefer the US dollar or question the durability of regional growth. The one month average at 0.6992 is therefore the first meaningful test because price is below it, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. Momentum roughly 0.2 percent down over the last two weeks reinforces the point that recent pressure has been persistent rather than a single-session dislocation.
The nearer round number handle at 0.7000 is resistance because reclaiming it would place price back above a psychologically important dividing line and challenge the recent pattern of weak recoveries. Above there, the month swing high at 0.7142, about 2.8 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling because it marks where the latest broader advance failed. A shelf of support at 0.6899, about 0.7 percent below, carries equal importance because it is also the lower boundary of the three month range 0.6899 to 0.7241. That overlap should encourage an initial defense, while a clean loss would signal that range support has failed. The lower round number handle at 0.6800 would then become exposed.
The bull path requires confirmation rather than merely another firm session. If 0.7000 is reclaimed and then holds as support, pressure on short positioning should increase because price would have recovered both the round handle and the nearby average zone. If that recovery extends into a decisive move above 0.7142, it opens the path toward 0.7241, which means the downtrend would be giving way to a broader range recovery. The bear path is simpler: if attempts to recover 0.7000 repeatedly fail and price returns to 0.6899, the support shelf is likely to absorb the first test. If losing 0.6899 follows, it exposes 0.6800 because the established three-month floor would no longer be containing weakness.
The principal risk to the bearish lean is a durable recovery through 0.7000 followed by acceptance above 0.7142, because that sequence would invalidate the pattern of lower resistance and shift control toward the top of the 0.6899 to 0.7241 range. Conversely, a brief move below support that quickly reverses would weaken bearish follow-through and warn against treating the first break as decisive. Net, AUD/USD remains vulnerable at 0.6947 because the larger structure is still down, but proximity to 0.6899 makes this a confirmation zone where the next sustained break should determine direction.
Key levels: support 0.6899 (0.7% below), resistance 0.7142 (2.8% above), one-month average 0.6992, three-month range 0.6899 to 0.7241.
