Nasdaq 100 (NAS100) – Daily Read

16 October 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
29,935.6

Nasdaq 100 is consolidating within an intact longer-term advance, but the immediate balance remains fragile because the last price of 29,936 leaves the index below a key reference point and only marginally changed after the last session finished 0.1 percent lower. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, which means neither side has secured control at current levels. The clear view is cautiously constructive over the broader horizon, while the near-term pullback still needs repair before a stronger advance becomes the higher-confidence outcome.

The specific pressure is visible in the one month average at 30,547, with price below it because the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Momentum is roughly 1.9 percent down over the last two weeks, which means recent participation has favored de-risking and profit protection rather than aggressive pursuit of technology exposure. Against the broader macro backdrop, the index remains especially sensitive to shifting expectations around growth and the cost of capital because those forces have an outsized influence on the valuation of its largest constituents.

The first contest is around the nearer round number handles at 30,000 and 29,500. The 30,000 handle matters because reclaiming and holding it would reduce immediate pressure and begin rebuilding acceptance toward 30,547, while repeated rejection would confirm that overhead supply remains active. The 29,500 handle is the closer support test, which means sustained trade below it would increase the probability of a deeper retracement. Beneath there, a shelf of support at 28,753, about 3.9 percent below, is the more important defensive line because it separates a contained pullback from structural deterioration. The month swing high at 31,361, about 4.8 percent above the current price, defines resistance because it is also the upper boundary of the three month range of 27,176 to 31,361.

The bull path is straightforward: if 29,500 continues to attract demand, then a recovery through 30,000 can challenge 30,547, because acceptance above the one month average would show that the pullback is being absorbed. If that recovery develops into a decisive move above 31,361, then the path opens toward 31,861, which means the broader uptrend has resumed with range expansion. The bear path begins if 29,500 fails and rebounds cannot regain 30,000. If that weakness then breaks 28,753, it exposes 27,176 because the principal support shelf would no longer be containing the decline.

The main risk to the constructive view is persistent trade below 30,547, because that would keep the short-term structure weak even if 28,753 holds. A decisive loss of 28,753 would invalidate the contained-pullback thesis and shift focus to 27,176, while a sustained recovery above 31,361 would invalidate the cautious near-term stance and favor 31,861. Net, 29,936 is a decision area: the longer trend remains upward, but control only turns convincingly positive above resistance, which means patience is warranted until the index proves whether this pullback is consolidation or the start of a broader retreat.
