Copper – Daily Read
9 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk
$6.64
Copper is attempting to recover, but it has not yet converted a firm daily advance into a convincing change of trend. Last price $6.64, 1.3 percent higher on the day. That puts buyers back in control at the margin, yet the broader message remains mixed because the market is sitting mid-range over the past month and recent momentum is still negative. The clear view is cautiously constructive above nearby support, with confirmation requiring a clean escape from the upper end of the established range.
The macro backdrop matters through the balance between expectations for industrial demand and concerns about slower global activity. Copper tends to respond quickly when markets reassess manufacturing, construction, infrastructure spending, currency conditions, or the appetite for cyclical assets. The immediate instrument-specific catalyst is the effort to rebuild value after recent weakness. Momentum roughly 3.6 percent down over the last two weeks, so the daily rise is better understood as a recovery attempt than an established upswing. One month average $6.61; price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That distinction keeps sellers engaged into strength.
The nearer round number handles at $6.80 and $6.60 define the immediate contest. Holding above $6.60 would show that buyers are defending the recovered area and accepting prices above the recent mean. Sustained trade through $6.80 would strengthen the case that demand is becoming more aggressive rather than merely absorbing a dip. A shelf of support at $6.40, about 3.6 percent below, is the more important downside boundary because it marks where the recovery thesis would begin to fail. The month swing high $6.93, about 4.3 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling. The three month range $6.02 to $6.93 shows that price remains contained within a broad balance rather than operating in open territory.
The bull path is straightforward: if copper holds $6.60, clears $6.80, and then sustains a decisive move above $6.93, that sequence would show improving acceptance at progressively higher prices and opens the path toward $7.00. The move would carry more weight if pullbacks remain shallow and former resistance attracts fresh buying. The bear path begins if strength repeatedly fails below the upper boundary and price slips back through $6.60. If sellers then force a loss of $6.40, the recovery attempt is invalidated and losing $6.40 exposes $6.02, with the lower edge of the broader range becoming the natural downside reference.
The central risk is a false recovery driven by short covering or temporary enthusiasm rather than durable physical and cyclical demand. Rejection near $6.80 would preserve the range, while failure at $6.60 would quickly weaken the tone. The read is invalidated by sustained trade below $6.40 because that would replace higher-price acceptance with renewed range deterioration. Net, copper has earned a cautiously bullish stance above support, but conviction belongs only above $6.93.
