USD/JPY – Daily Read

10 September 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$153.33

USD/JPY is pressing the lower edge of its recent range, and the burden of proof remains with buyers. Last price 153.33, 0.1 percent lower on the day. That modest daily decline understates the broader deterioration: momentum roughly 3.9 percent down over the last two weeks, while price sits beneath the levels that previously anchored the market. The clear view is bearish while nearby support is under pressure, although proximity to that support makes fresh downside positions vulnerable to a sharp squeeze.

The macro backdrop matters because USD/JPY is especially sensitive to changes in relative monetary policy expectations and bond-market pricing. A shift toward narrower expected rate differentials can pull capital away from the dollar and encourage yen strength, while renewed confidence in wider differentials can reverse that flow quickly. Against that backdrop, the instrument-specific message is weak. It is down near the floor of its one-month range. The one month average 157.67 stands above the market, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. That keeps rallies suspect until buyers recover meaningful territory rather than merely producing an intraday bounce.

The first test is a shelf of support at 152.88, about 0.3 percent below. This is also the bottom of the three month range 152.88 to 163.99, so it is defended not only by tactical buyers but also by participants treating the broader range as intact. Holding it could trigger position reduction from sellers and a rebound toward 155.00, the nearest round number above price. That handle matters because reclaiming it would create breathing room from the range floor and suggest that demand is becoming more durable. Even then, the month swing high 160.39, about 4.6 percent above the current price, remains the decisive ceiling. Sellers defending that area preserve the lower-high structure. A decisive move above 160.39 opens the path toward 163.99, where the upper boundary of the three-month range would become the next major test.

The bull path is straightforward: if 152.88 holds and price recaptures 155.00, then pressure on short positions can carry the pair back toward the one month average 157.67. If buyers then force a decisive move above 160.39, the bearish structure is invalidated and 163.99 comes into view. The bear path is cleaner while the trend remains intact: if rebounds fail beneath 155.00 and sellers keep control, then another attack on 152.88 is likely. Losing 152.88 exposes 150.00, with the round handle likely to attract both defensive demand and profit-taking after the break.

The main risk to the bearish read is a sudden repricing of relative policy expectations that restores dollar demand and turns crowded positioning into a squeeze. Sustained trade above 157.67 would weaken the immediate downside case, while acceptance above 160.39 would invalidate it. Conversely, failure to hold 152.88 would confirm that the range floor is no longer containing supply. Net, the pair remains bearish, but the best confirmation comes from the market proving whether support breaks or survives.
