AUD/USD – Daily Read

28 August 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.7200

AUD/USD is holding firm at 0.7200, 0.0 percent higher on the day, and pressing the top of its one-month range. The lack of a daily gain understates the constructive structure. The pair has absorbed a firmer dollar without giving back recent progress, suggesting that buyers remain in control even as resistance approaches. The clear view is cautiously bullish: strength above the nearby ceiling would confirm continuation, but failure there would leave the pair vulnerable to a deeper reset through a wide support gap.

The macro backdrop is balanced rather than decisively supportive. Hotter than expected inflation prints in France and Spain lifted near term European rate expectations, yet EURUSD and GBPUSD both fell over half a percent as the dollar gained ground on the mixed European numbers. Japanese labour data held steady while modest upside in Tokyo CPI kept the BoJ policy path intact. For AUD/USD, that means the dollar side is providing a headwind, but not one strong enough to disrupt the advance. The pair’s resilience matters because it implies that demand for the Australian dollar, and broader appetite within risk-sensitive foreign exchange, is offsetting the dollar bid ahead of the weekend.

The one month average at 0.7114 is the first important reference beneath spot. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, price above both its one-month and longer averages. Momentum roughly 1.3 percent up over the last two weeks reinforces that buyers have been willing to pay progressively higher prices. Immediate pressure is concentrated at the month swing high of 0.7207, about 0.1 percent above the current price. The nearer round number handle at 0.7200 is being tested now, so acceptance above it would show that sellers defending the range top are being absorbed rather than merely challenged.

Beyond 0.7207, the upper boundary of the three month range 0.6879 to 0.7274 becomes the natural destination and the more consequential supply zone. Below, the nearer round number handle at 0.7000 sits almost directly above a shelf of support at 0.6999, about 2.8 percent below. That pairing should attract buyers because it combines a psychologically important handle with an established area of demand. If it fails, the broader advance would no longer look like a shallow consolidation near the highs.

The bull path is straightforward: if AUD/USD makes a decisive move above 0.7207, then the range ceiling has given way and the path opens toward 0.7274. Holding above 0.7200 after the break would strengthen the continuation case by showing that former resistance has become support. The bear path begins with rejection from 0.7207. If that rejection develops into sustained weakness below 0.7114, then momentum has faded and attention shifts toward 0.7000 and 0.6999. Losing 0.6999 exposes 0.6879.

The principal risk is that renewed dollar demand overwhelms the pair’s relative resilience, particularly if weekend positioning encourages profit-taking near the range top. A failed breakout followed by loss of 0.7114 would weaken the bullish read, while a break of 0.6999 would invalidate it outright. Net, AUD/USD remains constructive, with buyers holding the advantage, but confirmation requires a clean break above 0.7207.
